How do you love this story so far? I hope you like it :) See you at the next update!
I sipped on my champagne flute, watching Lena and Chuck take their first dance as husband and wife.It was magical. The setting was romantic, with dim lights and white drapes falling from the centre of the wood beam ceiling and tied on posts in the spacious barn. The wedding was intimate. Only thirty people had come—mostly on Chuck’s family side. Then there were a few family and work friends, Kat, Nate, Dominic and me.I was a little further in the back, leaning against a wooden post and watching the scene unfold. Lena was beautiful in her white sleeveless Cinderella dress. She had removed the small fur wrap I had gotten her so she wouldn’t freeze outside. It was nice and warm in the barn, and I understood why this place was highly sought after for events—the location was incredible, with rolling hills under the mountains offering a fairytale-like scenery. Lena and Chuck’s wedding pictures would be breathtaking. They had completely rebuilt the barn from the inside. It made me think of
“I thought I should bring you to Samson Ridge for our trip. It’s about two hours from here, but there are plenty of things for us to see. With your studies in history and artifacts and your passion for stories, I’m sure you’ll appreciate what I have in store for you.”My hair was sprawled across the pillow when I turned to look at Dominic lying next to me. His skin glistened with a thin sheet of sweat, and he was still lightly panting out of exertion. My mind was in a sex fog-like state, so it took a while before I understood what Dominic was saying, but when it sunk in, I nodded and kissed his shoulder.“Sounds great. I’ve always wondered what the real estate mogul Dominic Moore looked like on vacation. I hope he’s fun.”Dominic rolled his eyes at me and pretended he hadn’t heard what I had said, but he couldn’t entirely cover the smile slowly etching on his lips. “You see me outside of work all the time.”“Yes, but only for short sex visits. We’ve never really spent a full day togeth
Dominic POVOlivia’s kiss still lingered on my lips even though she had left the room hours ago, and simply thinking about it made me grin like an idiot. Our night together was a blur of passion and sex. I couldn’t even remember if we had slept at all.Christ. I never wanted it to end.During the wedding, Olivia looked ravishing in her dress. The silky material clung to every curve of her body. Her breasts peaked behind the fabric each time I glided my fingers down her spine. I remembered how her body reacted to me…“You coming, mate?” Nathan asked as he stood in the doorway of my room.I lifted my eyes from Olivia’s dress, which was spread out on the bed, and shook myself out of my thoughts. I wondered momentarily if I was the only one between Olivia and me to feel this way. I couldn’t be the only one. Every time we touched, fireworks danced under my skin. Certainly, she felt something as well.“Aye. Let me grab everything here, and we can return to the city.”Nathan walked inside, pi
Dominic POVWe were sitting in the emergency waiting room of Bellview General Hospital, and the wait was excruciating. Nathan and I couldn’t find a comfortable position on the hard seats, no matter how much we repositioned ourselves. We were both tense and anxious, hoping for good news about Olivia and Katherine. The doctors had come and gone, and each time they left, we had no updates on their condition other than that they were still in surgery. It seemed like an eternity had passed since we arrived at the hospital, and our patience was wearing thin. When Nathan finally returned from the rental car office and got us some food, we couldn’t eat anything. We settled for water and coffee instead, unable to stomach anything else. It had been hours, and we were both exhausted and worried sick.I groaned and buried my face in my hands, feeling the tension in my body. Every time I thought of my sister and Olivia, I felt a jolt of anxiety that left me breathless and restless.Nathan was the s
Dominic POVAs I made my way through the hospital, my anxiety grew as I searched for the room Nathan had mentioned. After wandering in circles in the labyrinth of hallways, I finally found the second-floor room located in a quiet area. Upon entering, a kind nurse greeted me and led me past several beds, until I noticed Nathan’s shirt behind a partially closed curtain. As I approached, I saw him holding Katherine’s hand, her honey-brown hair peeking out from under the head bandage. Looking at her pale face and fragile body, it was hard to believe that this was my sister. I felt a shiver run down my spine.Katherine had her entire left arm in a cast, a neck brace holding her in place, and another cast for her elevated left leg. Her eyes were puffy and black and blue, while parts of her swollen cheeks and chin, showing under the respirator tapes, changed her features to nonrecognition.Christ. Looking at Katherine, I could imagine how much it must have hurt because it pained me to simply
The road I walked on was made of pure light. Everything else surrounding me was a dark void.I’ve been here before…I was sure I had walked this road in the past. There was a familiarity to it. Something that made me feel as though we were old friends reuniting once again. But every time I came close to replacing the memory, it slipped through my fingers like falling sand. Why was I here, though? I couldn’t remember what had happened before I woke on the lighted strip.I had no clue who I was and what brought me to this place. I even thought of my name, but my name—or what I possibly thought my name was—kept sliding on my tongue.Strange…As I continued walking down the winding path, the darkness around me seemed to thicken. Just when I was about to turn back, a sudden flash of light caught my eye, illuminating the area beyond the road. I couldn’t resist my curiosity and walked to the side of the lighted road, my feet stopping close to the edge. It looked like one of those old movies p
Gripping fear paralyzed me in place as I remembered the car tumbling down and our bodies following the rolling motion down the cliff. The screeching sound of metal twisting and breaking against the rocky wall still resonated inside my ears, making the hairs on my neck and arms stand up. After that, I couldn’t recall. It was blank. What happened to my friend? The room was dim, and I couldn’t see much. For some reason, I couldn’t move my neck, so I moved my left arm, touching my way along the hospital bed to find the red button to alert a nurse I needed help. The controller was usually on the wall near the headboard. My fingers fumbled along the seam of the bed liner, and as much as I tried to get to the damn button to punch it, I couldn’t find it.Someone needed to tell me if Kat was all right. I had to know! She couldn’t be dead. I did what I could when we crashed.Maybe I should have done more.Damn it.I was cursed.Everyone I loved ended up dead. I should have never allowed Kat to
I came to the conclusion that crushing Dominic’s heart was the only way to save him from the inevitable heartbreak that was bound to happen if he stayed with me. I was afraid that he would suffer the same fate as Kat.However, life had a cruel way of bringing me back to reality and reminding me that nothing was entirely safe. My past was always lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce and tear apart everything I held dear. My bad luck had followed me for as long as I could remember, and I was convinced that it would keep haunting me forever.I was a guarded person, and my walls were high and impenetrable for a reason. I knew that it was unfair, but I couldn’t help it. My experiences had made me cautious, and I wasn’t willing to risk exposing myself to any more hurt.As though I hadn’t been punished enough, Kat was released from the intensive care unit and was placed in my room after she pulled on a few strings. I hadn’t considered how awful she would look, and I hated myself even more w
