CHAPTER 37: CALLING HIS NAME

I felt a pang of guilt. I hadn't expected Mike to envisage a future where we had a family together, with me as the mother of his child.

Was it wrong for me to refuse?

I still have so many things to experience, so many unanswered questions.

I'm not ready yet.

Would he understand my perspective?

"Mike?" I called out to him as I dressed in a sheer yellow cardigan over a white tank top and ragged shorts.

He was in the living room, on the phone, a frown etched on his face. I couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt.

But was I wrong?

Mike is like a labyrinth to me. He's difficult to understand, hard to read. Maybe because I don't know him that well.

If I'm going to surrender my youthful days for him, the least I could do is to get to know him better, for him to earn my trust. Isn't that the right thing to do?

"Mike?" I called him again. This time, he looked up.

His frown deepened as his eyes scanned my body, as if he found something wrong with what I'm wearing.
