“Miss Smith! Miss Smith! Miss Smith, are you okay?”
Carmen heard a husky voice say. Then her gaze swayed away from the window and focused on the faces of those seated around the huge conference table.
“Can you repeat yourself, Mr. Dubois?” Carmen said with a false smile on her lips while she avoided eye contact with the others.
“Pardon me, Miss Smith. But this is the sixth time that we have lost your attention since this meeting began. If you are not feeling well, we can reschedule this gathering.” Mr. Dubois intoned while questionably staring at Carmen.
“There's no need for a reschedule.”
“If you say so. As I was saying...”
The meeting went on for hours, and the entire time Carmen strived to be attentive. Yet she and Liam's conversation from last night continued disturbing her concentration.
Once the others got done with their presentation, their focus fell on Carmen.
“Miss Smith, we are waiting on you.” Mr. Dubois i
“Good morning passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight 89B. We are now inviting those passengers with small children, and any passengers requiring special assistance, to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes. Thank you.”Dax stood in the airport's lobby with his phone pressed against his ear and his right hand hidden in his trouser pocket as he paced back and forth with a frown on his face.“I am coming home, dad!” Dax mumbled, and yet there was annoyance in his tone.“Have you won Miss Smith's heart yet?” Mr. Ash’s angry and harsh voice flowed out the phone speakers.“No.”“Look son, you are not allowed to return home if that girl's heart is not beating for you.”“Don't try to set rules that you know I'm not going to obey. I will see you a few hours from now. Also, Carmen and I are not getting married.”
The alarm clock on the bed stand remained silent even though it was clearly past seven o'clock, and it was set to ring at that hour.Carmen was conscious of her surroundings as she lied still, listening to Liam’s calm heartbeat. Yet she refused to open her eyes. Instead, Carmen kept changing her head position on Liam's chest as she tried to find the most comfortable spot.“Do you take my body as your pillow?” Liam whispered with his sight focused on Carmen’s blinking lashes. He slowly chuckled when she squeezed her eyelids while hugging onto him tightly.“When do you plan to go home?” Liam mumbled without taking his gaze at her.A frown settled on Carmen’s lips before she swung her hand, hitting Liam’s in his face.“Argh, my eye! What was that for?” He cried.“Are you tired of me already?” Carmen mumbled. But when she saw Liam’s left eyes shut and the
Dax dropped his pen on the document. Then he leaned back in his seat as he watched Liam entered his office. The atmosphere got hostile pretty fast even though both men appeared calm.As Liam took his seat, he maintained his cold gaze while looking Dax directly in the eye.“It's been five days since you returned home, so why did you choose for us to talk now?” Liam asked.“Because it's been five days since Carmen left me at the airport and she hasn't returned home yet.” Dax stated.“She's staying at my place.”“Good. I simply needed to know that she was safe.”Liam's index finger slightly rested on his bottom lip as he slyly stared at Dax with a smirk on his face. She's safe.” Liam straightforwardly said. His nails then gently tapped on the chair arms while he doubtfully stared at his friend. Then Liam rose to his feet and turned around to leave.“Do you know what you are doing to her?” Dax intoned.“For someone
The day faded slowly as the morning became an afternoon and the dull light met Carmen curled up in a ball while laying on Liam's kitchen floor. Her skin was mark with her tear stains, and the spot where she laid had countless drops of salty liquid on the tile.Carmen couldn't tell how long she had been sobbing for, but her eyes felt puffy from crying, she was dehydrated, and her entire body was sore.No one should be able to cry that hard, and yet she couldn't bring herself to stop as she and Liam's conversation replayed in her head. After a while, her lousy ringtone finally forced Carmen to dry her tears and pulled herself together. Then she answered the call.“Mo...mom, what's up?” Carmen mumbled, striving to keep her voice stable as possible.“Where have you been these five days. Since you arrived back in the country, we haven't got a visit from you or lay our sight on you!” Mrs. Smith's angry voice flowed into Carmen's ear, causing her t
The light was blinding at first when Liam raised his eyelids. Then he gently shut them for a second before reopening them again. After his vision had gotten adjusted to the light, he squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head for a second to pulled himself together. Then he stared down at Ali laying beside him.At that moment the shock Liam felt caused his heartbeat to stop for almost three seconds. However, when he lifted his head and his eyes met with Carmen's angry gaze, he lost track of how fast his heartbeat increased. In a haste move, Liam rushed out of the bed, only to realize that he was naked.“What is going on?” Liam mumbled as he grabbed his clothes off the floor. With pure embarrassment on his face, he started getting dressed, and the pain Carmen felt while watching him was indescribable.“You tell me!” She coldly said with a numb expression as she gazed away from him.At this point, Liam's brain was already strivin
It took a while for everyone in the hall to realize what was going on, but once Dax and Carmen got their attention, the place was crowded with whispers of excitement as they watched them kiss. However, their voices had Liam feeling like something sharp was ripping his heart from the inside, and no matter how hard he tried to block out the noise, it kept getting louder, leaving him in a state of agonizing pain. His eyes didn't sway away from Carmen as he clutched his fist and took a step towards her.‘Sure! You both may be living in la-la land because your affair is hidden. But what happens when it comes in the open? Who do you think will be in favor of you guys? Have you thought about Carmen's image or how you are going to drag her down in the mess you made!’With an aching heart, Liam slightly shook his head to get those words out of his mind as it rang in his ears. Then he took another step forward.‘Carmen's family doesn'
Drops of rain beat upon the car windshields as Dax sat behind the steering wheel with Carmen in the passenger seat. Both of them had not spoken since they left the Golden Eagle hotel.“Don't take me home?” Carmen finally gained the courage to say.“Can I ask why?” Dax mumbled, keeping his eyes fixed on the road.“Just because…”“Okay... Where are we heading then?”“Anywhere except my house and yours.”For a moment Dax's eyes swayed away from the road and passionately gazed at Carmen. Then he placed his focused back.“How are you feeling now?” Dax mumbled.Without taking her sight of the window glass and the several dots of raindrops on it, Carmen softly breathed.“I feel hot.” She absentmindedly mumbled.“Same. Maybe it's the heater. I think that I should turn it off.” Dax worriedly said.Hearing the discomfort in his voice, Carmen stared away from the window and gazed at him.“Are you okay?” She asked in
“Mr. Ash, you are one very lucky guy. Another hit, and we were going to be talking about a broken jaw. However, you have nothing to worry about since only your skin got badly bruised.” The doctor said while staring at the x-ray results. After looking at her watch for a second, Carmen gazed at the doctor and Dax with less patience in her eyes and a smile on her lips.“That's good. It's a relief that you are fine.” Carmen gently intoned as she stood from the chair.“You are leaving?” Dax asked with a bit of shock in his voice.“Yes, I got to get to work. I'm already a few minutes late.”“Oh, okay. Text me when you arrive.”“Sure.”The smile on Dax's lips slowly faded as he watched Carmen leave the room, then his face became dulled when the door shut behind her.‘How long will it take for you to love me back? Is that even possible?’ Dax doubtfully
