Twenty-one missed calls
The first light of dawn met Carmen standing before her dresser mirror, holding her hair in a tight ponytail. Then she smiled at her reflection before grabbing her purse and hurrying out of her room.
After Carmen had walked out of the front door and approached her car, she slowly stopped in her tracks as her lashes blinked uncontrollably while she slowly rubbed her index finger behind her ear.
“I called you multiple times yesterday. Why didn't you answer my call?” Dax calmly said without losing eye contact with Carmen.
The stress his stare caused her only grew more uncomfortable by the second. So she looked down at her hands and attempted to slow her breathing. But still, Carmen felt frozen and unable to speak since she could feel his eyes on her.
“You are back with him, right?” Dax asked with annoyance mixed with anger in his tone even though his voice sounded calm.

The moment Carmen stopped her car and the lights from the cameras begin to go off and on, she tightened her hands around the steering wheel while watching the reporters from her windshield.Drowning in her own fear, Carmen's body didn’t know how to react, it just shut down, and she froze to a point where she was hardly breathing.Suddenly a tap on her window drew Carmen's attention to Hunter's face as he stared back at her.“Are you okay, young boss?” Hunter asked after Carmen had rolled the windshield down.As she held in her tears and suppressed her emotions, Carmen’s face became expressionless. “Why isn't she answering? Did something happen?” Liam mumbled while staring at Carmen's name blinking on his phone. After the fifth call, Liam grabbed his jacket, his keys, and rushed out of the bedroom while struggling to wear his coat. A few minutes later, he was seated behind the steering wheel, then it hit him. “Where's the conference held again? Damn, I knew I should have been there with her!” Liam muttered in frustration. Then he opened his browser, searching for any news about the press conference, but when he found nothing, Liam worried only intensified. At this point, his mind was swimming with random thoughts, and none of them was positive. So without thinking soundly, he started the car and drove off, not knowing exactly where he was heading. After driving around the city to most of the luxurious hotels and buildings he knew, Liam finally got a call from Carmen. He hastily stepped on the brake before answering the call.

“Morning, beautiful,” Liam mumbled as he stood at the bathroom door, watching Carmen brush her teeth.As she glanced at him, the corner of her mouth lifted. The week went by naturally.
