Chapter Forty Four

I gritted my teeth, knowing the needle would pierce my skin any moment. I wanted to scream, but the rag wouldn't let me. I felt as though I would be sick. All of a sudden, it stopped. The world turned dark. I looked around to see where my assailant had gone. He wasn't here; it was just me floating in a sea of darkness. I felt a warm hand reach out for me. I took it hoping I could hold on, maybe it will pull me back into the light.

I sat up gasping for air. "What the hell was that?" I asked myself. I scrubbed my hand down my face. I hadn't had a nightmare in a couple of weeks, why tonight?
