CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR: MY SLUTTY AUNTY

Alisa had switched off the light in her room and sat staring in the darkness at the full moon.

Suddenly, her heart hurt as though something had hurt her deeply, like the way Johnny's death had. It was worse than crying for Jayden. It was way worse than she could imagine.

Something felt out of place, almost like she was missing or forgetting something. Her heart called out for Jayden, as though he was all she wanted to live for, or it was the last time she was going to be with him. She wanted to be with him, as though he had not hurt her that evening.

The unusually loud howl sounded again.

"These wolves seemed to be hyped up or excited about something tonight. And it's not like we find them all the time..."

The howl sounded louder and louder, as though every wolf in Palm Springs City was howling together, the howls combining in harmony, the tune like music to the ears. It was a beautiful sound to hear, and Alisa felt as though it lifted her spirit and filled her heart with so much joy.
