Chapter 91

Farren's Point of View

The call came not 30 minutes after his mother left. Maybe it was an hour. Or more. But the world crawled to a stop when it came. As if the earth knew that a tragedy had taken place.

Alejandro was draped over my lap. He had successfully pushed Rafael off of me. Took his place with a smirk. Isabelle and Nicolas had joined us only five minutes after they had received the scolding of their lives. Camilo had made us popcorn. Each a bowl with whatever spices we wanted on top.

Everything felt utterly domestic. Simple.

Until Alejandro's phone rang. The man groaned from his position below me. Refused to pick it up.

"Can you get that, please?" Isabelle whined from the other couch.

She was intertwined with Nicolas to such a degree that I no longer knew which leg was whose. Beneath the blanket, they looked like one morphed person with two heads. At least my brother was smiling blissfully. Looked happier than I had ever seen him before.
