Alex swallowed thickly. “You told him about me? He know he got one more parent?”
“Well, what was I supposed to do? Most of the other kids at preschool have more than one parent, of course he was going to ask,” Ash grumbled. He crossed his arms over his chest defensively and still wouldn’t quite meet Alex eyes. But his scent hadn’t soured, had just sort of gotten weaker, so he wasn’t mad, just...embarrassed, Alex guessed.

It wasn’t until they were finished eating and had started clearing the dishes that Alex said, “I’m sorry. For thinking you would do that to me. Alex has always been the type of person who prefers to keep his feelings on the down-low. His feelings regarding everything in his life.
