Maria J POV

My mind could not stop wandering as I thought of the words they had said to me. They were the ones who told the old man about me and also gave out my identity. I knew there was no way they could have known, not when I was always in disguise.

I knew they hated me, but was it enough for them to sell me out like that? I'll never do that to them. I thought we were partners. How could they do something so horrible?

Crying right there wasn't because I was hurt by them, although they had thrown me to the ground when they caught me, I wasn't so hurt to have shed tears. I cried because I never expected that people I worked with would go to that extent to hurt me. They were monsters, wicked beasts! They sent the old man at me.

I was so lost in thought, that I didn't know that I had gotten home. My fingers were clenched on my thighs, my eyes looking ahead of me when I heard him say,

“See why you need to stop going there? It's not safe. You need to quit working there”
