Chapter 4

The Revelation

Slowly, the surge of energy around her dispersed. He stared at her,as she tried to control her tears.

She tried to hide it, but she looked lost and shattered.

He didn't know why, but he felt a pang of pain looking at her in that state. She was a stranger to him, they had just met, but he felt the need to comfort and console her like a Father would. With that feeling and thought in mind, he walked up to her and held her shoulder.

“What do you think you're doing huh? Trying to hide your tears and pain? Listen child, doing that is useless. It won't help you in any way, it will instead make things worse. You shouldn't hide your pain and tears, instead you should let them out. Crying is a healing process. In order to heal and move on from our burdens, anguish and sorrows, it's necessary to cry once or twice. Hiding or controlling it will only make it worse. You have to let it all out, just let it out child”.

He said,as he looked at her with sympathy.

Charlotte looked at him, short of words. She stared at him with teary eyes.

“Can… Can I hug you?” she asked him as she looked at him hopefully.

“Hmmm” he said as he nodded his head at her.

She wraps her arms around him as she cries her eyes out.

“No no no, it's not fair. Why us, why? Why did they have to die? Why were we attacked by that beast? It's just not fair. I didn't even get a chance to tell my dad I love him one more time. I couldn't be of any help to them. I'm utterly useless!!” she cried out as she clasped her arms around the stranger.

“Life isn't fair, kid, we just have to come to terms with that fact. Your parents did what they did to protect you, because they loved you, and it’s also their duty as your parents. So you're not useless, you tried your best kid. Do not blame yourself for their death. What you have to do now is live your life the way they would have wanted you to. Do what will make you happy and also what will make them proud.” He said as he patted her back.

Moments later, Charlotte stood at the yard of her house, as she watched the werewolf stranger dig up a hole where her parents will be buried. She offered to help him, but he rejected her help. According to him, he didn't want her to stress her mind and body too much. She did disagree with him, but she later succumbed.

“It is time kid” said the stranger as he gestured his hand towards the hole that had been made and her parents' bodies.

. Charlotte took in a sharp breath as she nodded her head. Together with the stranger, she walked over to her parents' bodies. She carefully wrapped both their bodies with a cloth. After, with the assistance of the stranger, her parents' bodies were carefully and successfully buried.

She squatted beside their graves as she gave her last words.

“You know, I don't really have much to say. But I'll really miss you guys, damn I already miss you, you have no idea. I'll try to live my life the best way I can, and in a way that will make you proud. I won't desist from being the person you raised me to be, and I won't forget the good values you instilled in me. I'll also try my best to move on, cause that is what you would have wanted. It will be hard, I'm not gonna lie, but I'll try my best.” She said as she wiped the tears off her face. “And dad, I love you. I love you both so much. Thank you for being the best parents” She gave her final words as she stood up and walked over to the stranger.

“You okay kid?” Asked the werewolf.

“Yeah, I'm better than I could have imagined. Thanks to you.” She said with a slight smile.

“Well, that's good. I think it's high time we formally make introductions, don't you think?”

“Oooh yeah, I'm Charlotte Fried” She said with a polite smile.

 “Call me Daniel.”

“Now Charlotte, listen, there's something really important you need to know. Do you remember what happened with you back inside?”

“Oooh yeah, I remember, I didn't really have the time to think about it. I was too bothered to think about it. But now that I think about it, what was that? I've never experienced that before, it was an overwhelming feeling.” She said as she looked at him.

“Well I'm not exactly sure what that was, but I'm definitely sure it's something a human can't do.

When we were back in the woods, you remember the question I asked you?” He asked her.

  “Which question exactly?”

“I asked if you were human. At that moment, you must have felt I asked a ridiculous question. Well, I asked that question because I knew you weren't human. You see child, from the moment I saw your eyes, I knew you weren't human. You have a strange and rare color of eyes that only belongs to one species of shapeshifters that is rumored to have been extinct. Some even believe these creatures are myths. A handful of shapeshifters know about these creatures, and I happen to be one.” He said.

“Hold up!! You can't just decide that I'm one of these creatures based on my eye color. Yes, I have a very rare color of eyes, but that doesn't prove anything. For all we know someone else out there could have this same color of eyes, are you also going to assume they're not human?” She hastily asked him.

“Yeah, what you're saying does make absolute sense but there's something you need to understand. It's not just the color of your eyes, but your aura and scent. Everything about you seems different. Although it's faint, you have the scent of a shapeshifter, it's almost like your scent is masked. All shapeshifters have a general scent, some stronger than others. A werewolf’s scent is weaker than a Lycan’s scent. You might not understand all that I'm saying now, but you'll get there later. About your eyes, not just anybody could have such color of eyes. Only one type of creature called Dragonas has Orchid purple eyes. And I believe you're a descendant of these creatures.” He said as he watched her expression.

“I know it's a lot to absorb, but the sooner you know, the better. For the fact that you're not human, it's not safe for you to live with humans and vice versa. Since you've not completely mastered your skills and you don't exactly know what you can do, it's best you go to a school of shapeshifters.”
