“Coffee?” I arched a brow and he nodded gratefully.

After glancing at Damien who stood at the doorway, I waved Mannes to a seat and then busied myself with the coffee machine. Soon the smell of fresh espresso filled the air and I passed him a mug, taking my seat across his.

He took a huge gulp of his drink before setting it on the table. “I’ve got bad news.”

I stared across my desk at him, running through an array of worst-case scenarios. The man I hired to lead my covert team in the far north wouldn’t even meet my eyes. Usually, Mannes was so direct, an alpha himself; his eyes stared through a person—making the man even more intimidating than his massive size.
