Chapter 28

  The first ray of sunlight in the morning came in through the slits of the curtains and it spread on my face. Only then did I realize that I’ve fallen asleep.

I looked up at Xavier, his face was pale and his brows were furrowed in his sleep.

I touched his forehead to check his temperature and I was relieved that his fever had subsided a bit. I fed him another pill.

I expected he would be hungry when he wakes up, so I made him some porridge.

When I was done, I called his assistant again, and instructed, “Don\'t tell Xavier that I was here. Even if he asks, tell him you took care of him last night, okay?”

The assistant protested but I hung up the phone blankly.

The moment I walked out of the bedroom, I seemed to have heard his murmured sighs. My footsteps faltered slightly, but I didn\'t look back.

It had just stopped raining when I stepped out. The cool wind of early autumn blew and my shoulders shuddered at the cold.
