I placed Gavin in his stroller, which Monserrat did pack amongst other things. He was already sleeping at that time, so I did my best not to wake him up. My mind was wary of thinking of what Monserrat said, and it occurred to me that I would indeed die as the worst Inyoka ever.

I followed the address on the card Daniel had given, as I heard it, to the seers place. It was in an office building, and there was a long line waiting out of the room to hear their prophecy for the future. I was number 148, and by the look of things, things might stay out for much longer.

“Number 67!” One of the seer chamber men had called the person who was number 67, replied, and went in. They went on with the session.

I groaned out of frustration as I fed Gavin his milk.

“Number 93! Number 93?” The chamber man called again, and everyone looked at each other like they weren’t the one.

“Number 93, here,” I said as I got up with Gavin and followed the chamber man into the room, which had a stoning smell
