I sat in front of the bathroom mirror, caking mascara unto my eyelashes, when a knock came on the door. I rolled my eyes. It was probably the fifteenth knock in the last ten minutes.
"Um Jane? I really have to go." That was Ed, my roommate."I'm almost done." I called back at him, hurrying my makeup for his sake. It had been two months since I saw Frank last, since I left his house and since I moved in Ed.I hated having flashbacks to that night. Dan had hung up on me immediately I called him and so there was no hope for me in that area. I'd broke down at the bus stop, missing every bus, just sitting down with my bags by my side, crying my eyes out.Ed had been kind enough to ask what was wrong with me and my mental state had not cared that he was a complete stranger, I'd just went ahead to tell him every little aspect of my life and how was I homeless."I just moved into my apartment, it's not far from here. It's a two bedroom and I'm"Are you okay?" He repeated again as if it wasn't strange just bumping into him here."Yeah I am." I mumbled under my breath. It felt unrealistic to bump into him, yes we lived in the same city but far from his street. I'd wanted nothing to do with him and in that short period of time where we had stopped communicating, I could almost swear that I had lost the feelings I had for him but seeing him here now, his hair grown much more, his tan darker and the presence of more tattoo on his arms and chest area, I could see from his short sleeved shirt. His eyelashes were curled upwards and he had tweaked a few of his eyebrow hairs off.I didn't know how engrossed I was with watching him until he broke the silence, "you said you broke your ankle, hop in I'll take you to the nearest hospital." He offered, still speaking in that tone that made it seem like we'd never met before."No." I shook my head. My head was already tight and I couldn't even breathe in such a
"You could catch a cold," he was pulling his jacket off with his free hand and handing it to me. "Take it.""I'm already wet, I'll just soak it regardless." I sighed."Where are you headed?" He asked."Home but the bus isn't here snd I'm just trying to find somewhere warm to wait by. I wanted to ask him why he was here or what he was doing but I decided against it, not wanting to come off as too inquisitive."I can take you to my place." It seemed he had figured I did not want him knowing where I stayed. On the one hand, it was a good idea to get me warm and out of this hell of a place but on the other hand, I was trying to heal from him not add salt to my wounds. He took my hand before I could respond, "You're coming with me, you're not going to fall sick under my watch." If only he knew what holding my hand was doing to my body, he would refrain from so doing.I didn't bother to argue, I just went with him, craving for warmth m
It wasn't a dream when I woke up tge next day.Frank planted a gentle kiss on my forehead and it felt like the past two months had not even happened. It was when my phone beeped where it was on the bed that I snapped to my feet.It was Ed."Where on earth are you?" He called."Good that you care now, even though I was literally gone the whole night." I rolled my eyes."I tried to call you but it wouldn't connect. I was worried but glad to hear that you're fine." He said and clicked his tongue."I'll be home in the matter of a few minutes, make breakfast for me." I called into the phone and then hung up."Is that a new boyfriend?" Frank said from where he was sitting beside me."Maybe," I decided to tease him, "why would you care?""I don't." He shrugged one shoulder, "we are nothing but friends with benefits, at this point, we are not even friends. Just with benefits."That caused my heart to s
I didn't stop to think as I left the house, driving on full speed to the hospital. I kept glancing at my phone to see if I had missed any calls that could tell me she had been identified, and was alive."Sir!" A nurse called behind me as I ran towards the emergency room of the hospital. She was coming after me but I didn't care. All I wanted was to see Jane safe. She was backed up by two security men that managed to catch up with me. "Sir you can't go in there." Ohe of them held my sleeve."You don't get it, I need to find out if she is okay! Let me go you motherfuckers." I was panting heavily, fear overwhelming me."I'll deal with it on your behalf." The nurse assured me. I tried my best to stay calm. I didn't want to be sent away from the hospital and not be able to see her."Okay fine, I just want to know if she's fine. Her name is Jane..." I paused, realising that I never bothered to ask her what her last name ever was and then I'd
Jane On the drive to my place, Frank would not stop peaking at me every chance he got. It was like he was expecting me to have disappeared."Frank if you don't pay attention to the road, you might as well get us involved in another accident." I said, actually worried. The accident had done to me things I didn't think I was ever going to overcome. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to be sure that you were doing fine." He said. I had inputed my address so he knew where to drive to.Ed was home when we got there and he looked between Frank and I and his eyes went wide when he finally noticed what condition I seemed to be in."What happened to you?" He opened the door wider, moving aside so we could go in. Frank looked around, taking the place in."Did you not watch the news at all?" I rolled my eyes. I hated the times when Ed seemed so disconnected from the world."I did but what does that have to do with you?" He blinked, still
My jaw dropped. His eyes were fixed on me and I couldn't help but look at everything else in the room except from Frank. He was waiting for me to say something and it wasn't that I don't like Frank, of course I do but his question threw me away. Being a girlfriend meant being fully committed to the relationship. I didn't have a problem with it but I wasn't sure if I was ready and we still had a lot to know about each other."Jane?" Frank called, causing me to flinch out of my thoughts. "I'm sorry if that was so impromptu, fuck me, now isn't a good time to ask, you just had the accident and I didn't even let you heal, I..." he was blabbing on when I cut him short with a kiss.He closed his eyes, held my chin and drew his body closer to mine, sucking on my upper lip as delicately as possible. We pulled away with a simultaneous sigh of relief."That felt so good." I nodded, "yes Frank I'll be your girlfriend."And just like that, once more, I was of
"Funny I bump into you here." She chuckled as I let go of her, "thanks for saving me." She said and put her hair up in a rough ponytail. "What are you doing here?""I'm here for an interview, what are you doing here?" I raised an eyebrow, certain she wasn't into construction."You are? My brother owns the firm," she shrugged, "I'm not a full time therapist anyway so I come here most of the time and just hang out until I'm called upon again." Jamie informed me."Oh wow, that's interesting." I nodded. "What job are you here for anyway? I could put in a few words for you, a thank you for saving my life." She winked at me, "I didn't get your name yet.""Frank. And that would be really appreciated." He wanted more construction wirkers and was going to pay eight thousand a month, that was four thousand biweekly and I could really use that. Bee would move back in and Jane wouldn't feel so bad about what had happened with Neil."Alright
Jane and I jerked away from each other as though whoever was knocking had managed to come in. Jane jumped down from the counter while I picked my pants off the floor, "did you order something?" I asked her with a raised eyebrow because I wasn't expecting anyone."No." She shook her head, casually returning to her cooking while I went to answer the door for whoever it was."Who is it?" I wondered."Jamie." She called back. Jane and I exchanged confused looks but I proceeded to open the door."I didn't know we had a therapy session today." Jane came forward, "you said to call you if I needed you." She said."Yeah that was supposed to be the case but we had news that one of our clients did something to harm herself especially after assuring her therapist multiple times that she was doing fine so we were all given orders to check up on the patients, so here I am." Jamie explained herself putting her bag on the couch."Oh, well you r
