Chapter 5

IANNA’S POV

I did not go back to class for the rest of the day, I stayed in the bathroom with my thoughts. No one wanted me there anyway; they all resented me for something they had no proof of. It would make their lives easier if I did not exist. So today, I will not exist.

I was tired as well and needed a break from all the cruelty. Sitting in that bathroom for hours listening to girls gossip as they came in and out. I was the main subject of their gossip of course and the new girl no one knew.

Pamela the girl who made me bleed was worried that the new girl might snatch Luka away from her. She did not like the way Luka was looking at her. I wonder why she would blame the poor girl and not Luka who was looking at her.

Just before lunch time, I left the bathroom. I knew it was going to be filled with students and I will no longer have the peace I had. I left and went to sit on the football field. I was hungry but I woke up late and did not pack any lunch.

“You are a difficult girl to find, I have been looking all over for you, but I think it will be more difficult being your friend than finding you.” The new girl said as she took a seat next to me.

I sighed, here comes another prank. I ignore her and waited for the prank to start. “I didn’t think you will ignore me, but I understand, you don’t know me. My name is Christina, and I am new here as you know.”

She said and I still ignored her. I didn’t know what her plan was, but I was not going to fall for it. “Here, at least eat something and I have taken notes for you from all the classes we attend together.” I was shocked to hear that she was in the same classes as I was.

I hesitated to take the notes, I still did not trust that she was being sincere. “I am not here to mock you or make fun of you. I just want a friend.” I looked at her and found her smiling at me. I took the apple she offered me.

“Thank you, my name is Ianna.” She smiled showing her dimples. “Nice to meet you my dear beautiful flower, your name suits you.” I laughed, no one has ever called me beautiful or even compared me to a flower.

“I doubt the people here would agree with you on that. here I am called the plague, bad luck, the curse. Anything mean really. You being here with me will not make you popular, I can assure you of that.”

Christina laughed, “I am already popular just that people around here don’t know that yet. Also, I choose who I want to be friends with.” I think I am going to like this Christina girl. That is if she will not be influenced and remain my friend.

This did not mean I trusted her yet, it might still be a prank and the next thing I know when we get to class, she will say to her friends. ‘Pay up, I win, I made the cursed child believe I could be friends with her’ then I will really look stupid. “Hey, where did you go just now? I have been calling you.” I have been in my head just like I always am since I have no one to talk to. I wanted to tell her that.

But instead, I smiled and spoke. “I am just thinking that maybe this is some prank or an allusion my mind created to make me believe that someone like you could be friends with me.” She looked at me with nothing but sadness in her eyes.

“Oh, my dear flower, I am sorry you had to be bullied to a point that you cannot believe or see when someone is being sincere with you. But worry not, soon you will see that this is no prank and that I truly want to be your friend.”

I saw no lies or deceit in her eyes. I teared up but blinked them away. I did not want to appear weak and fragile in front of her. “Now come on, we have one last class before school is out.” We stood and we walked side by side to class.

People stopped and stared as we walked together. Christina kept talking and I kept my mouth shut waiting for the other shoe to drop but it didn’t. all the way to class we walked together, and people stared.

“My my, what have we got here? The curse and the little princess. Little Miss, do you know who and what this girl is?” my sister Lissa asked. When she appeared I already concluded that my short friendship with Christina was going to come to an end and it was about to happen.

Christina looked at me then back at my sister. “Are you talking to me?” she questioned, and Lissa closed the gap between us. Christina did not back down and look her dead in the eyes. “Yes, I am. This girl is my sister and trust me. She will bring nothing but trouble to you if you keep hanging out with her.” There, my friendship is dead.

“You know what I think? I think you are the cursed one, am sure I would want nothing to do with you myself if I had a sister like you. This beautiful flower right here is my friend, and you better stay away from us.” I could not believe my ears.

She just put Lissa in her place and stood up for me. I didn’t know it could feel so good to have someone in your corner. “Suit yourself, but don’t come running to me when things don’t go well for you because of her.”

Christina scoffed. “I think if things don’t go well for me, it will be because of you and your black heart.” Lissa scoffed and left with her friends. I stood there dumbfounded. Christina hooked her arm on mine. “Let’s go Ianna, we still have class.”
