My party soon departed for the Attah of Igala’s palace after I’d completed my registration and settled down in the school. They were boys, girls, men and women from diverse backgrounds in my college. My mum’s warning and counsel kept ringing in my ears whenever I thought of talking to or approaching a girl. Sometimes, I felt my dopamine levels were low or were not yet alive / active. I soon realized that I easily befriended and trusted the opposite sex more the boys (guys).Although I’d been a lone wolf from childhood, I knew I couldn’t afford to enter adulthood without acquainting myself with ‘certain things’. I can still remember the names of some girls back then in my Year One (100 level) – Linda, Seghosime, Doyin, Precious, Timi, Emem, Aanu, Paula, Maryam, Halimat, Ore, and Timi. CHAPTER THREEI continued walking until I arrived at the entrance of the Old Girls Hostel. They were several huts adjacent to the entrance of the Old Girls Hostel. They were called huts even though were made of concrete, corrugated iron sheets and wood. They were circular in design, and had two passages. Each hut could comfortably sit up to twenty adults and contain twenty-five more standing.I sat in an empty hut and waited for Bussy to arrive. I was wearing a blue casual cotton long-sleeved shirt and a pair of black trousers. I didn’t fancy wearing wristwatches for any particular reason, even though my mum had purchased several Rado, Rolex and Omega wristwatches for me. The weather was cool, and the tree branches danced in the evening breeze. My feet felt free in the pair of black leather slippers I was wearing. I was about to say something when Bussy suddenly pulled my head closer with her left hand and kissed me with all her might.“Third hut… 7pm”. She turned and walked three steps, before winking at me again. The way Bussy carried the package I gave her and her handbag, made me think she must’ve been a model at some point in her life.Bussy walked towards the field facing the administrative block to get a bus that would transport her to Old Girls Hostel. There was no gainsaying the fact that I’d fallen for her. It was happening very fast. I stood there rooted to the spot as students walked around where I stood in all directions. They paid me no attention, due to the scorching Okada weather. The latter made everyone (especially the students), to always be in a hurry. I smiled and clutched the handle of my black bag, before walking to a nearby snack bar. I knew I couldn’t afford to breathe a word of what was happening to my mum. Thoughts of Bussy flooded my brain like the Niagara Falls. I didn’t care much about her height, because as far as I was concerned, she was simply perfect and portable for me. At that moment, I could sincerely and confidently say that I was in love – with Bussy/The love between I and Bussy blossomed as the weeks and months went by. Afterwards, they’ll cook up a story that they were molested at a younger age…”“And then what?” I whispered impatiently.“And according to them, that is the reason they aren’t virgins. I turned and faced Aurelia, eyeball to eyeball. Law students kept moving back and forth. Our lecture hall seemed to be the only hall that was currently occupied.“What are you driving at, Aurelia?”She didn’t answer immediately, but swiped furiously on the screen of her large Blackberry mobile phone, until she suddenly stopped.“Just swipe right”. Aurelia whispered and handed her Blackberry mobile phone to me. I received it from her gingerly, and she turned her face away, while moving her knees rapidly. The pictures I beheld afterwards made me lose my appetite for the rest of that day. The hot weather suddenly became chilly for me. I felt like the only person in the Oba Erediauwa College of Law. Memories of Bussy were slowly fading from my mind as academic activities continued in the semester. Out of curiousity one certain day, I left my hostel and headed for a cultural event which was organised by the Delta State Students Association. The said event was slated for a Saturday, and I made up my mind to attend it. They were quite a number of students in my class who hailed from Delta State, and most of them were present at the event. They were dance troupes, masquerades, traditional fashion display, cuisine exhibition, meet and greet and announcement of the incoming and outgoing exco members. It was an interesting event and I caught Aurelia laughing heartily at the event. The cultural event extended into the night, and I decided to leave the venue. Some metres from the field, I saw two chocolate-skinned girls trudging across the field. I hurried towards them, and waited until one of them left the former and exited the large field.
