Chapter Thirteen

"Fuck," I murmured, and I woke up.

I tried to sit up, but my head throbbed, and every muscle in my body protested against that movement. I managed to hold something and sat up. I blinked three times to clear my vision, but it still felt woozy.

And my mouth felt very dry; I felt like someone who was abandoned in the desert. I felt someone's hand holding me, and without looking, I knew that it was Hayden.

I shifted from his hold to take a look at him, and his eyes opened immediately. He pushed up, then stood up and left the bed.

While he was going, I took a good look at him—disheveled hair, a bit of dark circles under his eyes—and he wore nothing except his boxer briefs.

"Here." He handed me the cup of water, and I took it immediately and downed everything.

"Thank you," I whispered.

He nodded. "I wonder how you survived all those years because I took my eyes off you for a few seconds and you almost got yourself kidnapped."
