Nate
Other days passed and we had come close to closing the case. Finally, we had reached a solution and now it was all downhill, the big work had been done and solved. I had worked hard to get this case closed quickly.
I spent the whole day inside the conference room with small lunch breaks in which Becka kept me company. I admit that I appreciated her company. For that half-hour, I was distracted by that pile of documents in which I found myself perpetually.
Becka and I used to talk about everything together, sometimes we remembered the hottest times when we’d run away from the meetings our parents took us to, and we’d hide to smoke pot.
We never talked about our first experiences together, it wasn’t the kind of memories I wanted to bring up.
Becka used to keep me company even when I was down, and in the last few days it often happened to me because we had extended our stay for a few more days because o
It was nine o'clock in the evening when I finally arrived at the club decided. I spent the free hours on the phone with Maya while she talked excitedly about the things she had bought for the baby and what her mother and Jess had given her. Maya had been talking nonstop about her day from the moment she opened her eyes to the moment I called her, the same way Axel did when he picked up the phone and I had been listening to them for hours, I nearly forget all about the appointment with my colleagues who had bothered to storm me with messages. So now I was there, opening the door, with my hair still a little damp from the shower I had done, and a hand in a pocket of my pants. I sighed when the warm air of the restaurant caught up with me and I looked for my companions for that evening, finding them all sitting around a table. I saw Zeke shamelessly hitting on Becka as she stared bored at the drink in front of her, her chin resting on her hand. I
I froze the moment I saw her lips a few millimeters from mine, almost touching, and Becka looked me right in the eyes."What are you doing?" I asked, gritting my teeth.Becka bent her head to the side "I want to see if anything happens if the chemistry I’ve always felt and continue to feel is true or just a figment of my imagination," she said. She didn’t give me time to answer she put a hand in my hair and pushed me against her mouth. Before she could kiss me, I ducked out, and her kiss ended on the side of my mouth. I skimmed out of her grip and pulled back."I’m married, Becka," I said, looking at her emotionless."Are you telling me that you feel absolutely nothing for me? That everything we went through was nothing? That the chemistry between us was and is nothing?""We were kids who wanted to fuck Becks, nothing more than that," I said, shaking my head and walking away from her."No, we weren&rsquo
MayaI woke up with the sun hitting me and pinching my skin. I opened her eyes slowly and listlessly, noticing that the night before I had left a window open. I hadn’t noticed. I was so devastated after spending the day with a desperate Axel and grieving for his new teeth that they were starting to grow. The first time he had cried continuously for three days, with a high fever and I and Nate had spent the nights looking after him and pampering him while he did not calm down. This time he turned and turned, complaining about the pain, fortunately, he had no fever, but it had been torture to manage to put him to bed. We had been awake until three o'clock in the night after several camomiles had taken to sleep and the same I as soon as I had rested my head on the pillow. The sun was so high, that I was sure it was lunchtime. The phone didn’t ring once, I frowned because Nate used to call me when I woke up.I reac
MayaNate stood behind the door and opened it so that I could see the empty corridor, surely Axel had hidden somewhere because he had done one of his."Axel" I called him more softly and he felt the imperceptible steps on the wooden floor "What are you up to?" I asked."Axel good!" he shouted again.I saw Nate laughing before biting his lower lip to avoid making noise."Where are you?" I asked, looking down the hall.I heard the sound of some containers then Axel’s blonde head appeared from the bathroom, his face completely stained with shaving foam. I opened my eyes wide and a creepy sound came out of my mouth. Axel’s blue eyes lit up and he ran down the hall and laughed. I knelt down on the bed."If you run again I won’t show you the surprise I have for you!" I said immediately and Axel froze in the middle of the corridor. He just turned his head, his whole mouth and cheeks filled w
MayaI started coughing nonstop and Axel looked at me and then pat me on the head."Mama no bad, mama good," he said in all seriousness.Nate came over and placed a glass of water in front of me, I grabbed him and started drinking while Axel put his hand under it to lift him better."Why would he fire you?" I asked once she calmed down."Because I dropped the case and left," he said, scratching his head."What did you do?!" I shouted, making Axel jump with fear."I didn’t quit in the middle of everything. I had to put the last signatures to close permanently, usually whoever signs takes the credit and I decided not to sign because I wanted to go home," he said shrugging."Is it serious?" I asked, not understanding."Yes, if your father wants his name on such an important cause," he said."If you knew it was so important to him why didn’t you stay? It was just a few more days,"
NateI woke up early that day because I was anxious. The night before, after putting Axel to bed, my father had answered my message, demanding that I go to the office today to talk, despite the fact that I had told him that once I returned I would take a few days off to be with my family.I knew Dad was pissed, and as I knew it, there was nothing more important to him than having his name on such important cases, cases that could make the office more famous, especially if we could solve them in such a short time, would bring more customers. But I also knew that it was tremendously difficult, I had never felt so alone as in those weeks in Seattle, I had never realized what loneliness was, because before I had no one and now I had everything to myself.I sighed and put my shirt on and then looked in the mirror in the walk-in closet. If my father had been pissed off he would have come to terms with it. I didn’t care.I
NateI looked into my father’s eyes, the same eyes that belonged to my harpy sister and that I already imagined gloating at the situation I was in.Axel looked at me just as seriously and, had it not been for that particular situation, I would have burst into a thunderous laugh at seeing my father and son in that position, but I couldn’t, so I just bit my inner cheek to avoid laughing."If you want to be pissed off because I came home, you don’t have to, I’ll save you the trouble. Whatever you tell me will never make me regret the decision," I said by placing my ankle on my knee and looking at my father, "If I went back, I would make the exact same choice. I didn’t leave in the middle of the case, I didn’t give up anything accomplished. I closed that goddamn case in record time, I was the best, no one can match what I did, not even Jess, I solved every single problem, circumvented every technicality a
MayaI went to Nate, who was walking into the house with grocery bags while Axel was holding what seemed like a brand-new toy. God, he fucking spoiled him too much."What is it?" I asked arms crossed to my chest."No big deal," Nate replied quietly."No dig beal" Axel sang cheerfully.Nate went into the kitchen with the bags while I picked up my baby and stormed him with kisses making him laugh and then following Nate into the kitchen. I watched him put the groceries in place and immediately noticed how tense and rigid he was.I sat on the stool with Axel in my arms and looked at him carefully."How did it go?" I asked him"Wonderfully," he replied sourly."Is that why you use the doors as a punching bag?" I asked quietly as he squeezed one of the doors."A lesson! Can you believe it?! He wanted to teach me a lesson because he thought my life was
