CHAPTER 25

SARAH

I paced the hospital corridor, my anxiety growing with each passing minute. I kept glancing at the door to Raya's ward, wondering what was going on inside. A few nurses hurried past me, their faces grim. I caught one of them by the arm.

"What's happening?" I asked but the nurse gently released herself from my grip.

"Just calm down, we're doing our best."

With that, the nurse dashed inside the Ward.

The minutes ticked by slowly as I waited in the hospital's dimly lit waiting room. The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting shadows on the walls. I sat on a hard plastic chair, my knees bouncing with nervous energy.

Finally, the door opened and the doctor in blue scrubs emerged. I jumped to my feet.

"Please, how is she?" I asked, my voice trembling.

The doctor paused, his expression grave. I could tell by the look on his face that he was about to pass on some bad news, but I waved it off.
