Chapter 21

Jerry was sitting in his living room, enjoying the peace and quiet of his home, when he heard a knock at the door. He sighed, wantingto just ignore it and continue relaxing, but the knocking persisted. Finally, he got up and opened the door, only to find his ex-girlfriend, Ella, standing there with her bags.

"What are you doing here with all your things?" Jerryasked, surprised.

Ella looked nervous and uncertain. "I, uh, heard that Vivian left and I didn't know where else to go," she said, her eyes downcast.

Jerry frowned. "Who told you that?"

"The security man at the gate," Ella said quickly. "He said he saw Vivian leave and that I should come here."

Jerry shook his head. "That doesn't make any sense. Vivian wouldn't just leave without telling me. And besides, she's not gone. She just went out for a little while."
