Chapter 26 Part I – What Really Happened

"Are we not gonna check if our house has a spy, too?" asked Ross during our weekly meeting. The other members seated at the long table nodded in agreement.

He continued, "With the recent news on the Agnellos and Vernons, we should take precautions than suffer the same shit they did."

"There can be no spy," objected Aster. "We haven't hired new people for the past year."

"We can never be too sure, son." Everyone turned to listen to Old Barry. "Nobody can be trusted. Especially our newcomer last month."

"You don't mean the mistress, do you?"

Wary eyes stole glances in my direction. "You're right. She's a dangerous woman."

"What do you mean?" Ross frowned. "Did she tell you something?"

"Just last night, she told me she was disowned at an early age. She was taken in later by a retired cop who taught her how to fight and use guns. When her old man died, she came back to her family, killed her father and his new wife but left her step-siblings alive because they were too young. Now sh
