Two Hundred and seventy four

CHAPTER 274

Nicholas observed the change in Selena's expression from a different room. She stood up and hugged herself while frowning.

"She keeps bringing up Glen. It's starting to worry me," Nicholas muttered.

While on the other side, Noel began to open the folder given by Nicholas. There were several sheets of paper inside. They were reports done by Peter and that surprised Noel. He peered into the folder.

"I didn't know Nicholas would give me this much work." Noel's complaint was heard by Nicholas in a different room, but Nicholas ignored it and chose to focus on Selena. Noel looked at Selena then smiled and put the papers on the table. "I don't want to read all the writing on this paper. So, what can you give me to get me to get you out of prison?"

"I... I didn't kill anyone."

Noel waved her hands in the air, she seemed to look down on the opponent. "That's a very standard thing. Do you have any evidence? Everyone in that base camp is dead, none of them can give you testimony. So you have to come up with another reason."

Selena was silent. She looked puzzled as her eyebrows knitted together deeply. When she was arrested, Selena thought that telling the truth would help her get off easy. After all, Selena hadn't killed anyone. It was all Ace's doing. But even she herself was confused, how could she prove that she hadn't killed anyone, if there were no witnesses to help her?

"Ace can be my witness! He was there, he killed Amanda and the people in the base camp. I swear."

Although Selena raised her fingers to swear, Noel was not moved at all. He was a man who did not waver easily, and this made Nicholas grin with satisfaction as he watched him.

Noel tapped the surface of the table, then continued to ask Selena a question. "If you can give me some major information about Ace, then... Nicholas and I agree to release you. We'll forget you from the theft case, as long as you can tell us where Ace is going and what he's planning."

"But I don't know anything."

"Don't be so resigned. You have to make an effort before you say that," Noel pointed at Selena, then continued, "Think back to the beginning. Starting from the first time he came to you, and how he moved to use you until you finally split up and he left you alone here. I'm sure you don't want to go to jail and leave your son alone in daycare, do you?"

Selena gasped as Noel brought up her son in the middle of the conversation. She looked up, seeing Noel with her eyes widened. She immediately put her face forward and pleaded. "Please don't let me go to jail, Detective. My son and I have had a hard life after I was left by my lover. Glen has no one but me. Do you have the heart to let him live a worse life without me by his side?"

But Noel was not touched by Selena's words. Firstly, Noel didn't have a lover yet. Secondly, she wasn't the kind of person who easily trusted criminals. Noel knew all criminals wouldn't confess their crimes easily. That's why cross-examination was necessary.

"I won't be touched by your words. If you don't want your son to live a hard life, then you have to pay dearly. Pay me with big information. Information about Ace and only you know it."

Every word that came out of Noel's mouth was full of emphasis. It made Selena bite her lip in nervousness. Noel seemed stern and held strong legal principles. It made Selena lose her courage.

"I ... I just want to get out of the police station and live a better life with Glen." Selena looked at Noel with teary eyes. "I gave you all the money I got from Amanda. I didn't take a penny, Detective."

"Why do you think...Ace took Amanda's money?"

It was a to the point question. Noel felt that he had wasted a lot of time, and they needed to quickly get to the important points in the interrogation. Nicholas was amazed at Noel's attitude on that one.

"Ace is in need of a lot of money. Do you know what he's going to use the money for?"

After hearing the question, Selena seemed to remember. The woman squeezed the hem of her oversized shirt and began to venture the truth.

"Ace... is leaving this city, with Alicia."

Those words left everyone in the room shocked. "I found out that information when I found Ace's cell phone left in the car. He...had a deal with The Fixer to escape under a false identity."

Finally... the truth was revealed.

Nicholas asked again, "When will Ace pick Alicia up?"

Selena was silent.

"He will definitely force Alicia to come with him. You know when Ace will kidnap Alicia, don't you?"

Noel pointed at Selena. "You should remember more."

"If you count the day I found the message, then... Ace will go to see Alicia tonight."

Nicholas and Noel exchanged glances. They immediately stood up, preparing to capture Ace and thwart the man's mission. But Selena's hand held Nicholas back.

"Detective... please let me go. I can't leave my son like this."

Nicholas sighed, then looked at Noel. "Give the order to Hendrick to take care of Selena. Have Hendrick take Selena home, so he doesn't get involved. And... I'll go to Alicia's first, you go after Hendrick."

"Okay, Nick."

Selena watched the two detectives before her. She bit her lip, gazing expectantly.

"You... you'll be released."

Selena's eyes sparkled with happiness. She closed her mouth and nodded her head. "Thank you very much."

"Come follow me. Hendrick will help you get home."

Selena stood up from the chair, all her belongings were returned and Noel followed Nicholas' orders.
