CHAPTER 271

Alicia leaned on Nicholas' shoulder, she let the blanket cover their bodies on the sofa. After a night of sleeping together, Alicia woke up first. She took a deep breath and woke Nicholas up.

"Nick?"

While shaking Nicholas' hand, Alicia tried to get her lover to wake up. And after a while, Nicholas did wake up.

"Um, good morning, Alicia." Nicholas adjusted his sitting position, he then blinked his eyes and began to speak. "How did you sleep last night?"

Alicia mumbled. Letting go of the blanket covering her body, she hugged herself. "I got a good sleep because of you. But can't you just relax like this? You said you were going to check on Selena again today?"

"Yes, there will be a cross-examination. Noel will try to provoke her with psychological techniques," Nicholas said. He looked ahead, then moistened his dry lips. "I wonder to what extent Selena knows information about Ace. If Selena can tell the police about the steps Ace is taking, it would be great for all of us."

Alicia woke up from her sleep, she stood up. Shaking her waist, the girl shrugged her shoulders. "We still have to be careful because Ace is good at hiding."

"Are you leaving?"

"I have to shower, Nick." Alicia's eyeballs rolled lazily, she wrinkled her nose. "You don't want to smell my bad body odor, do you?"

Nicholas laughed, he removed the blanket covering his body, then leaned his back against the sofa. "Gosh! It's been a really busy day. I can't spend time with you."

"That sound like a complaint?"

"Are you kidding, Alicia?" Nicholas rolled his eyeballs lazily, he got up from the sofa and put his arm around Alicia. While kissing Alicia's cheek, Nicholas teased her. "You smell nice even though you haven't bathed, Alicia."

"Ewh. You're getting good at teasing me," Alicia replied, then brushed Nicholas's hands off her body. "I'm going to take a shower, I have a meeting with Felix today."

"How long are we going to be busy like this?"

Alicia smiled bitterly. She also wanted to live a quiet life without thinking about other people's deaths. But as long as no one could catch Michelle's killer, her resolve would remain the same. Her mind was made up, she would not change her mind. He had to find the criminal... sooner or later, dead or alive.

"Sorry for not being able to take you on vacation to HeartWood, Alicia."

Nicholas' voice sounded pure and full of guilt. He pursed his lips, before finally gently rubbing the top of Alicia's head beside him.

"I know your job is hard, Nick. I also want to catch the murderer who killed my mother as soon as possible," Alicia said. She said what was in her heart to Nicholas.

Alicia pursed her lips, she was afraid to speak the truth. But in the end, there was no other choice but to say everything. The girl looked up, looking at Nicholas straight on. "This is my mother's death, and I will seek justice for her. Even if I don't understand business, politics, or anything else, I will still dive into it to expose the criminal."

"You have a brave determination, Alicia."

"I hope you find out something from Selena, and yeah, I hope it's related to my mom's death."

Hearing Alicia's words filled with ambition, Nicholas became excited. He nodded in understanding, while one hand patted Alicia's shoulder.

"So, which one of us will bathe first? You? Me? Or... shall we shower together, Alicia?"

Alicia's cheeks reddened instantly. She shouted, "Stop, Nick! You're such a pervert!"

The girl ran away while holding back her embarrassment. She felt a strange sensation every time Nicholas teased her in that way. Meanwhile, Nicholas could only smile with pleasure at Alicia's behavior.

While waiting for Alicia to clean herself up, Nicholas checked his subscription news articles. He found some interesting information, but none of them featured news about Ace. Ace had become the most wanted man in New York, but not a single witness had reported his whereabouts as if he had disappeared from the city.

Nicholas waited for about thirty minutes until Alicia finally came out of her room. Alicia was wearing a white blazer and a furry gray coat, while she wore white socks to match her appearance. Alicia tightened the grip on the gray backpack on her shoulders, which made Nicholas frown.

"You're still using your old gray backpack? Like, really?"

Alicia looked at herself, then shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "What's wrong with it?"

Nicholas muttered, then said, "Maybe you should get a new bag, Alicia. I don't want my beloved to look unkempt by using old things like that."

"Come on, Nick. This is my favorite backpack."

"Are you kidding me, Alicia?" Nicholas raised both eyebrows, he gave her a look of disapproval. "You're going to be CEO soon. You should start paying attention to your appearance and-"

"Okay, okay, okay!" Alicia cut in, she covered Nicholas' mouth with her palm and smiled widely. Nodding her head, Alicia tried to change the subject. "You'd better shower now and get ready for work. I'll be waiting, so don't make me wait too long. OK?"

Nicholas rolled his eyes lazily, he then replied while raising his hands in the air, like a criminal caught by the police. "Alright, I will obey your orders, Princess."

Alicia smiled.

And after Nicholas finished bathing and changed his clothes, the two of them prepared to leave. In the distance, a gray car watched the two of them. He nodded his head and took out a cell phone from his pants pocket. The man was calling someone, and after waiting for a few seconds, a man on the other side answered his call.

"Hello, Boss. It's about that girl you were talking about. It seems... she's really close to a detective. Should I make them split up?"

[...]

"Yes, Boss. I'll follow your orders. The two of them just left the flat. I'll get back to you later."
