CHAPTER 267

Ace put on his black gloves before he got into the car. His brown eyes looked ahead, while both hands held the steering wheel. The engine hadn't been turned on yet, so the road ahead was very dark. Ace managed to hide the car in a narrow alley that only fit Ace's car. Even then, Ace had to work hard to get it out carefully.

After the chase that almost got him caught by Nicholas, Ace felt even more threatened. The streets of New York City were lined with his face. He was the most wanted fugitive in New York City. Even billboards that used to display commercial advertisements or important notices were now replaced with his face. Everyone was looking for Ace Blake.

"Damn. Where am I going to go now? I can't go without Alicia, but taking her without a plan won't do me any favors either."

After thinking for a while, Ace finally started the engine of his car. He positioned the car so that it could exit the narrow alley. The car blended into the crowded street, but Ace's eyes scanned the surroundings vigilantly. He lowered his baseball cap to cover his face from the CCTV cameras installed at the traffic lights, he also used a mask to cover part of his face so as not to be recognized by anyone.

The fast pace of the car made Ace arrive at The Fixer's headquarters in just thirty minutes. He got out of his car after observing his surroundings. Ace's hurried footsteps were forced to stop when he came face to face with two bodyguards standing guard at the door of the headquarters. Ace took off his hat and mask, he raised his face and spoke in a bold voice. "Tell The Fixer, Ace Blake wants to see him."

The two bodyguards exchanged glances, one of which was Matt. Matt and the other bodyguard then nodded their heads, Matt went inside, while the big bodyguard stood guard at the door while watching Ace. After a few minutes, Matt came back out. He opened the door and let Ace in, but Matt wasn't going to let his guard down, Matt walked behind Ace as they both walked into the room.

"Hello, Blake! How are you?"

The Fixer was busy pouring wine from the bottle into his shot glass. He shook the wine glass and took a sip. A satisfied sigh could be heard from The Fixer, but Ace just stayed silent and observed.

"You didn't come to drink wine with me, did you?"

Ace took a breath, he let it out quickly as he said, "I already brought the money you need."

One of The Fixer's eyebrows shot up. He looked unsure. "One million dollars?"

"One million dollars."

The Fixer's face looked enthusiastic. He poured more wine into his glass, then laughed with satisfaction. Pointing at Ace standing expressionlessly on the other side, The Fixer said, "Amazing! Where did you get that much money? Your mom even had to negotiate for me to work for her. But you? This is amazing!"

Ace didn't want to listen to anything unimportant from The Fixer. He had been caught red-handed. He was a wanted fugitive, time was short and Ace had to hurry if he wanted to leave New York with Alicia. Ace raised his face, wanting to show his interlocutor the power he had.

"Have you prepared everything I asked for? A new car, a new identity, the documents I need to leave the city with Alicia."

The Fixer did not answer. He lowered the wine glass he had been playing with in the air. He set the glass down on the table, letting the loud sound fill the ears of everyone in the room. A single sigh escaped The Fixer. The man with the sexy beard grinned. He snapped his fingers in the air and pointed at Ace.

"Show me the money you promised."

Ace was silent for a while. He then said, "Alright. Wait here."

The man intended to take the money in the car, so The Fixer ordered Matt to follow him. Ace quickly retraced his steps back to his car, Matt following behind. The tension in the air was palpable as Ace opened the trunk, revealing a black duffel bag full of stacks of cash. Matt grinned, and nodded his head.

After that, Ace took the bag in his hands and carried it inside to the Fixer. Matt was still escorting Ace there.

"Looks like you're serious about this, Blake," The Fixer commented, eyeing the money with interest.

Ace nodded, his gaze fixed on The Fixer. "I want everything ready within a week. No mistakes."

The Fixer leaned back in his chair, swirling the wine in his glass. "You are in a hurry, my friend. What's the rush? To escape the law? Or because Alicia is protected by a policeman who loves her dearly? An unrequited love story? Betrayal?"

Ace hesitated for a moment, debating how much to reveal. "Let's just say I had unfinished business, and time wasn't on my side. I brought Alicia because I knew she wasn't happy with that stupid detective. Besides, Alicia is mine and will forever be mine."

The Fixer chuckled, sensing there was more to Ace's story. "Well, you paid a high price for urgency. I like that."

As Ace handed his backpack to The Fixer, Matt checked his money, making sure everything was there. The Fixer nodded in satisfaction, and Ace took the opportunity to ask for details.

"I need new identities for Alicia and myself. A clean, untraceable track record. And a car-something inconspicuous but reliable."

The troubleshooter grinned, leaning forward. "You asked for a clean record, my friend. It comes at a cost."

"What do you mean? I just paid you."

The Fixer raised one hand in the air, he picked up the stack of money in the bag and inhaled deeply. "You didn't pay with money, but with your death. You... have to die in New York, if you want to live in England. You know what I mean, don't you?"
