Brindle found herself obliged to visit the boy's house regularly, as her aunt viewed it as an opportunity to extract more money from them for her own alcohol consumption.

As days passed, the little boy fully recovered. During one of her check-up visits, she spotted him playing outside.

"You must be the girl who saved me," the boy spoke, his accent evident.

Brindle smiled warmly in response.

"Thank you for saving my life, I should go for some swimming lessons when I return home" he expressed gratefully, inviting her to play with him.

"Sure, I'd love to," she replied in her soft voice.

"He said his name is Richard Wood, but you can call him Richard," Brindle giggled at the formality.

"I'm Brindle Gonzalez, but feel free to call me Brindle," she said with a chuckle, as they shared in the laughter.

"Nice to meet you," Richard greeted.

And so, they began to play together frequently whenever Brindle visited.
