CHAPTER 20: The Painting

“Welcome gentlemen, mademoiselles! As the goddess graces upon us this beautiful night, we will present to you gifts from the highest of qualities that will surely have you spending half of your fortunes!” The guy wearing a black top hat announced enthusiastically to the crowd.

Oh, an auction, I see. This isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

I subtly glance at the masked stranger from earlier who’s sitting on a leather seat on the parted other side. Just when I thought I’d somehow get a glimpse of him unnoticed, I was instantly caught peeking by his dark orbs that seem to be staring right through my soul.

He has a smug look on his face, smirking. You must be wondering how I can tell despite that large mask covering half of his face—I can simply tell as I have been dealing with such expressions for my entire life.

He raised his brows at me and I responded with a pair of narrowed eyes as I tried to grasp his intention behind that signature smug look.
