Chapter 48

Estelle POV

I felt hands on my head, and I sleepily opened my eyes, and it was Aurelian. Immediately, I saw him, and my eyes opened.

“You are back,” I said, trying to sit up. He sighed, nodding his head.

“Where is Ajax?” he asked.

“He is sleeping,” I said, looking outside. It is late at night.

“What happened? You’ve been gone for three days,” I said.

“The attack was to distract us; they took alpha Conrad,” he said. I gasped, sitting up.

“They took him?” I asked, shocked.

“Yes, gone. No scents, no trace—nothing was left to pick on and track him,” he said. My eyes watered, not alpha.

“Just this evening, his body came. He looked like the bodies in the pictures,” he whispered, and tears fell down my eyes.

“He is dead,” I said. He nods his head sadly. He wasn’t sad for Alpha, but for me. Alpha didn’t deserve to die this way; he wanted to be alive for his mate.

“I feel terrible; we couldn’t protect him,” I cried. He hugged me close.
