The Sudden Call

Phoebe’s POV

“How did you get my number?”

He laughed out loud.

I couldn’t figure out if he was an imposter, a helper, or a distraction.

But he sounded confident and was confusing.

“Don’t you think that is the less important thing you should be asking?” he said.

“It’s important to me. You could be a fraudster, and I can’t deal with that.”

He chuckled.

“You are as hard-headed as I thought.”

“Tell me why you came to me and not Diana? She is the one handling the case. I want a definite answer if you want me to listen to you.”

“Because I see more potential in you than Diana. She may be a lawyer, but she is a softie.”

His tone was calm but harsh. There was no doubt in my mind that he is one of the men who look down on women in power.

I chuckled.

“Let’s meet up,” he said.

“I hardly know anything about New York. I can’t meet you anywhere,” I said to him.

“Don’t worry about that. You tell me your location, and I will have my men pick you up.”
