QUESTIONS

LIAM'S POV

My head was pounding from the strike and the last thing I wanted was a woman before me making a great deal out of nothing. All I require right now is adequate sleep.

I wince in pain, now feeling it worsen as I make extra efforts to the nearest couch. Every step I take to relieve myself of this excruciating sting was futile.

An Alpha is never weak. An Alpha strikes and never lose. My beta came to view and it seems like he was coming from Aerin's room.

"What the hell? Liam!'' His big eyes widen at me concerned.

"Just get me a fucking First Aid box, Rivers!" I hissed louder this time.

He scurries away instantly. He always moves fast which gives him an edge over his opponents every time he was in a fight.

Rivers and I are close buddies since childhood. Our parents' bond was unmatchable. He is a good and close friend that has always been present disregarding my cold and lousy attitude.

He is reticent and accommodating but when Diego was in charge, he becomes that unrecognizable ravenous beast who has zero tolerance for intruders or challengers.

The fact that one holds a royal title doesn't deprive one of the apparent- You have to earn it. My father was the Alpha during his times, and so was Rivers' father being the Beta.

If we hadn't earned it, if we appeared weak, the title is claimed and handed to the next in line which means the next in line has to the worthy.

Diego was a clingy friend fond of Olcan. Our wolf's bond is envying but we do not let it get to our heads. When we needed to get business, we have our heads buried in it.

Diego's parents passed on two years and they were just the best to me. I cherish every moment they shared with me and that which they had shown to me.

It has always been irking to catch a glimpse of pity in the eyes of the wolves like I was a child that needed charity.

''Look how much a bag of bones he has become.'' She said whispering but unaware that it was loud enough to be heard.

''I did think I was the only one who noticed!''

''The death of the Alpha and Luna is a huge loss to the pack.'' She sniffled a little.

'' An unexpected one at that! I just hope he heals soon.''

I'll hear them say among themselves until It began to irritate my ears. My parents' death was a big blow to me and also my drive to be strong and unconquerable.

If not for anything or anyone then for them.

To be quite frank, life hasn't been easy since they left. I was just a teenager when they bid me goodbye to dwell with the moon goddess.

My life has been a total mess.

In the middle of my thought, Diana sat next to me with a First Aid box. She began sapping my blood with cotton wool. She nursed it to the best of her abilities.

I should apologize to her for speaking so rudely to her. I lost control with battling rampaging thoughts in my head.

I had plans in my head when I brought her to the pack house. Something is intriguing about her, that's why I can't let her go just yet. Besides, what was a wolf of her kind doing within my territory?

I don't want the pack to feel unsafe and tense because of her. I must figure out who she is, and get sufficient and authentic information from her before I can take action.

This way the only reason I assigned Diana today is her daily, until she wakes up. I told her never to leave her room unwatched but look where that has gotten us too.

I had to lie to the Elders that she was my mate. Thankfully, her pretty self didn't do anything other than ask weird questions or was she a competent sarcasm?

If the Elders figure out that I brought in a stranger without their consent. I'd have a thorough week's lecture on how I needed to be mindful so I wouldn't turn out like my father.

The last time they mentioned my father as regards a trivial issue between the Mongos pack and the Black Moon pack I lost it completely.

Ever since they ensured they censor their words and tone when matters like that arise.

'' I think we should call the hospital.''

''Dr. Rash? That old man needs a break. I'd give it to me tonight.''

''Don't be stupid Liam. Look how sore and bad looking you are.'' He rolled his eyes at me. One would think he was that good at it.

''Do I look like death is abreast of me?''

''Maybe.'' He chuckled lightly.

''We need to have a long discussion and ensure the warriors have vigorous training tomorrow.''

''Yes, Alpha!'' He hollered and saluted as a sign of respect then his dentition was displayed.

''Don't be distraught. I'm sure Diana's got this. Don't you?''

She nodded her head, keeping her eyes away from me.

''Was I?''

'' I am pretty sure, you were.''

''Oh, shut up!'' He grinned and I smirked.

Diana refused to utter a word to me and I just stare at her applying bandages to my waist which left my lower waist exposed.

I must thank the moon goddess for this well-built body I have. It is nothing but a blessing.

I helped myself up, heading straight to the room taking in the fresh air and slumping into my bed.

I hear noises. My body seems restrained from movement. I was blindfolded and my hands and legs were firmly caged in chains.

I grunt aloud, trying to set myself free from the chain. The pain in my lower waist was still there, it made me fall to the ground.

It stings really bad. I hear voices screaming in agony. Others wailing in pain, pleading for the preservation of their souls.

For the first time in a long time, I got terrified.

'Please, save my son.'

'Wait! Kill me instead. He is only a pup. I beg...''

A loud sound hit me making me bend low at impulse. I heard the woman scream. She cried till her voice was distant.

''Liam. Save. . .''

I know this voice. I do but who is this?

''Young Alpha! You are next!''

I was in another realm, trapped in a glass space but I couldn't break through. I had weapons that could be granted me access to the other side but my attempts failed.

'Hello, Alpha!' An unknown voice roared, sending shivers down my spine.

''Get me out! Out of here.'' I begged.

''Right after I take something precious from you. It will be pleasing to watch you powerless and incapable to save these priceless.''

I squinted to catch a glimpse of a silhouette, still, it wasn't lucid. They felt distant. I could feel their pain in my chest but I only saw nothing again.''

''Take me instead, spare them please.''

I jolted back to reality wincing in pain. I held my lower waist, cussing as it wasn't healing yet. It should be in two days, I guess.

I looked at the digital clock opposite my way, it read 2 am. My heartbeat still accelerating out of fear.

Umpteenth of questions ran through my mind. I struggled within myself trying to decipher what it meant. Is my pack tarnishing because of me?

I tread slowly to drink water. I tried what, I usually do to ease myself again even though it doesn't work. It has become a habit I can't let go of.

I can't go to sleep again. My mind was jumbled up.

I was about to go for a walk around the pack house on the terrace when I remembered my presumed prey was still asleep. I hadn't checked on her since I came back.

''Let me go check up on her.''

I gently opened the door, peeking into her room and her scent hit my senses hard. Sniffing the air that is being engulfed by her scent, it only made her heartbeat race in milliseconds.

I can sense Olcan wanting to take over but he didn't, I guess he only revealed his presence. That was weird.

" And an Alpha sneaking into a young woman he isn't mated to isn't he?'' He questioned trying to provoke me.

''Quiet,'' I answered back.

''What do you think the pack would think of y...?''

''Quiet, I say!'' I retorted, raising an angry tone.

She jerked out of bed, looking at me in fear. She found something next to her, that looked like a long stick.

She slowly took it, maintaining eye contact. She raised her hand high, enclasped firmly in her defense- a wooden instrument, a baseball.

My hoarse voice roamed the room. She suddenly left out a sound, more of a squeak.
