CHAPTER 12

Emiliana woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing on the bedside table. She groggily picked it up, still half-asleep, and saw that she had a missed call from Jace. She was surprised, wondering why he would be calling her so early in the morning.

She quickly dialed his number and he answered on the first ring. "Emiliana, thank God you picked up. I know you were asleep. You need to come over right now," he said urgently.

Emiliana sat up in bed, suddenly wide awake. "What's going on, Jace? Is everything okay?"

"It's the camp director. He's been making threats," Jace said, his voice shaking with anger. "He's blaming us for ruining his reputation and he says he's going to sue us for everything we have."

Emiliana felt a knot form in her stomach. She knew there would be consequences for exposing the camp director's secret, but she didn't think it would come to this. "I'll be right over in a couple of hours once it’s brighter," she said, hanging up the phone.
