Marriage of convenience

“Where are we?” I quipped, averting my head in his direction.

“Marriage registration office. It closes soon, let's hurry.” Zachary took off the seatbelt, trying to get out of the car in a hurry.

I remember agreeing to marriage but not to elope. The whole point of marriage was to prove to my father I could be married and be an heir. If I have to elope there is no point. I wanted people to come to the wedding. I wanted them to know me, and see me as someone with potential. The annual board meeting was in a few months, and making connections with those board members was the only way I could get a promotion. Not this way.
