William pulled her close to him, his grip tight on her arm. "Good," he said, his breath hot on her neck. "Let's go, now." A hint of a smile returned to his face.

Sophia felt a pit in her stomach as she slowly made her way to the kitchen.

"Mom... we're leaving," she said, her voice shaking with fear.

Maria turned to her, surprised. "So soon? I was preparing something, why the sudden rush?"

Sophia stammered, trying to come up with a believable excuse. "Uhm... we're in a hurry, we need to go somewhere."

Maria noticed how nervous Sophia was and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay, dear?" she asked, looking at her with concern.

Just then, William walked into the kitchen, his presence filling the room. "Oh, she's fine," he said, his voice smooth and reassuring. "I'm sure she's just cold, aren't you?" Placing a hand on her shoulder.

Sophia quickly nodded, not daring to contradict him. "Ye... yes, mom. We'll take our leave now."
