Chapter 19

William strode out of his study and closed the door behind him with a resounding thud. He knew Sophia was upstairs, and he couldn't help but feel a growing sense of anger as he thought about what she might have been doing while he was away.

As he climbed the stairs, his grip tightened around the handle of the gun that was now safely locked away in the safe. He had to remind himself to keep his cool, to not let his temper get the better of him.

When he entered the room, he found Sophia lying on the bed, her eyes closed as if she were asleep. He walked over to her, his expression unreadable as he trailed his fingers lightly over her face.

Sophia's heart was racing as she tried to keep her breathing steady, willing herself to stay perfectly still and not give herself away. She knew that William could be dangerous when he was angry, and she didn't want to be on the receiving end of his rage.
