17. Old enemies

"Why are you standing here?"

Angeline slipped out of the hall onto the deserted side balcony. She stood looking out over the garden. She turned her head as hands possessively hugged her waist. Hugo's breath was warm in her ear; it made butterflies tickle her stomach.

"Let go of me. Dave can see us, my mother-in-law is here, my brother is here too," she broke away reluctantly. Wanting to linger but also afraid someone would find out. Just behind this door, they were all there.

"Did your brother say something that made you sad on your own birthday? I see you're very gloomy after your conversation with him."
