CHAPTER 6

TINA

I had just come back from the garden, and I was going to the kitchen to get myself a snack. But when I got inside the pack house, I picked up a scent. One that was foreign to me. It smelled like the soil after the rain, and it had some woodsy touch to it.

Nina, my wolf came to life when we caught it, we forgot about the food and followed the scent all the way to my father’s office. I was shocked that my father would have visitors as no alphas came to our pack. I didn’t know why but my father always told me that they respect him too much to bother him with nonsense.

Imagine my surprise when I caught a foreign scent right inside our pack house and was now following it like a dog after a bone. I budged into my father’s office without knocking. I couldn’t contain myself. The scent hit me so hard that I got dizzy for a moment. Our eyes locked and I could not help but admire him.

He was tall, broad shoulders, chiselled jaw, long blond hair tied to a man bun. Green alluring eyes and I found myself getting lost in them. Then Nina confirmed it. “Mate!” I was so excited saying it out loud and even jumping up and down a little.

I just turned eighteen a month ago and I didn’t think I would find my mate so soon. But I wasn’t complaining, my mate looked like something that came out of a magazine or movie. He was my star and made only for me.

I rushed to him wanting to feel what it would be like being in his arms, but he dodged me. I almost fell because I thought he was going to catch me. He didn’t wait around after that and walked out. That was a clear sign of rejection, my heart ached, and I watched as he walked out leaving me hurting.

I rushed to my father and buried my face in his chest and sobbed. He didn’t want me; my mate didn’t want me. I was sure that he was going to reject me when he came back but the other one, I didn’t notice was in the room spoke, bringing me back hope.

“My brother doesn’t do well with surprises; he will cool down and come back.” He said, my father was shaking with anger. “Go and get him. No one disrespects me and my daughter in my own home!” father bellowed. The man hurried and left.

“Don’t you worry my child, if he rejects you, then he will not leave this place alive. That, I promise.” I didn’t want my father to hurt my mate. If he didn’t want me then it was his choice to reject me. There was no need for him to be killed. But his rejection hurt like nothing I had ever felt.

The pain reminded me of that night when I was eight. When I begged my father not to go on that raid and he went anyway. Could it be related? I could not help but wonder. When the two men came back, I held my breath waiting for the rejection to come but it never did.

Then he told me to go pack my bags because I was going with him. I was happy to hear him say that. I left my father’s office in a hurry bumping into my mother on the way but not stopping to tell her what was going on. The woman followed me and found me taking my clothes out of the closet.

“Where are you going in such a hurry and why take out so many clothes.” I stopped what I was doing and faced her. “I found my mate.” Mother smiled proudly but then frowned. “Why does it look like you are not happy about this, who is he?” I sighed and sat on the bed.

“I am very much happy with him mom; he is tall and handsome and everything I dreamed of and more.” Mother took a seat next to me. “Then why don’t you look happy? For someone who has just found her soulmate, you don’t look too happy. Do you want to reject him?” I quickly shook my head.

“Oh, mom, I would never do that. I have been waiting for my mate for so long. How could I reject him now?” mother searched my face and I looked away. She held my chin and made me look at her. “If that is the case then why do you look like someone just died?”

I stood and continued taking out clothes and throwing them on the bed. “Tina Lawerence, you will answer me now, young lady! If you don’t like something about this boy, then don’t go with him. It doesn’t matter how long you have waited for him. If he doesn’t make you feel butterflies just by looking at him then he is not the one. Mate or not!”

I turned to look at my mother with teary eyes. “That’s just it, he makes me feel all those things. But I think he wanted to reject me.”
