Rayne's POV

From as little as four years, my mother wouldn't hesitate to remind me of how I had much to deliver to her, to the family. To her, me being a ‘child of prophecy’ meant that my life wasn't mine, and that I had to do everything possible to make her happy. My father was no better.

Most times, I would wonder if they were truly the ones who birthed me, because when I watched the bond between other families, it didn't match the one that I had to experience each and every day.

Then, father died, and mother became the only one taking care of me. The loss of her mate did something to her, it made her more hardened and cold. All of a sudden, she could no longer speak to me without mentioning who I was destined to be.

Whenever someone mentioned her late husband, her face still froze, and her voice would go decibels lower. Not everyone noticed the last one, but I did. I had always been good at noticing things like that.
