Chapter Thirty Eight

ARIA POV

"The...guard." I began slowly, and he patiently listened until I was done, "H…he… die.. died… what… hap... happened to… his… body?" I still haven't gotten over the guilt I felt for being the reason he died. It was still eating me up inside.

"He's been buried," Darius answered, his voice was low now. He grabbed one of my palms then kissed it, "Don't blame yourself for his death. It's not your fault! I didn't plan the attack and he tried to protect you to the end so don't blame yourself, blame the animal that sent those men after you."

As he spoke, tears welled up in my eyes and soon they went rolling down, it was when I sobbed that I realized I had been weeping for a while now.

"Oh, Ari!" Darius leaned closer to me and hugged me. "Stop crying." He said while he took me softly, "Hush now, why are you crying like a baby?"

I burst into tears, I was full-out sobbing now and he continued shushing me. "Shhhh!" He continued shaking me, he used his thumbs and wiped my tears away.
