MATE

4.

“I'm sorry,” Selene bowed her head to them. She knew she had done the wrong thing this time around, and there was no justification for her mistake.

The gods looked at her and shook their heads. Never in their lives have they seen something this complicated before.

Zeus stood up and the rest of the 11 gods bowed. Zeus was their leader, and he had led the council of 12 gods for ages. He looked at Selene, his silver eyes boring into hers like they would cut through her soul.

“How could you make such a mistake? We have no business with physical contact with the wolves. Why did you touch the baby?” He asked.

Selene sighed. “I'm sorry. I wasn't in control of myself and my emotions.” She answered sincerely.

“You're the moon goddess, Selene. No one has the kind of self-control you have.” Artemis sighed and facepalmed.

“I know, but this one was beyond me. I just saw myself reaching out to touch the baby.” She replied.

“And because of this stupid mistake, your powers are at risk,” Ares, the god of war, snapped. He turned to face Zeus. “This was the same reason why I wasn't taking it when she was chosen by the moon.”

“Calm down, Ares!” Zeus thundered and Ares sat down. He averted his gaze to Selene, who still had her head down. “To correct your mistake, you're going to be sent down to earth and get your powers back from that baby.” He ordered.

Selene looked up with a start. “He is just a baby, Zeus. Taking the powers now might kill him.” She spoke calmly.

“It is something you must do, Selene. Your powers and the magic realms are at risk here.” He snapped.

“I know, but the baby's life is at risk too. His mother suffered to birth him. I can't take his life just like that.” She countered.

Zeus hit his hand on the desk, and they all flinched. “Go to earth and get your powers back, else you will lose your title as the moon goddess.” He turned his back and was about to disappear.

“Wait!” She exclaimed.

He looked over his shoulder.

“I'll go to earth and take my powers back, but permit me to wait until he is grown up and strong. That way, he won't die if I take them.” She requested.

Zeus thought about it. He looked at the rest of the gods and goddesses seated in their respective seats and all, except Ares, nodded their heads in agreement.

“Fine. I only agree to this because a few days here is like years there. When he comes of age, go down there, get your powers and return.” He ordered.

“Yes, Zeus.” She smiled.

They all bowed before disappearing. After they were gone, Selene ruffled her hair.

“This is not what I bargained for.”

A FEW DAYS LATER…

“It's time,” Zeus said, and Selene stood up from where she sat. 20 years had passed in the werewolf world, and the gods were sure the boy had grown and would be able to handle the transfer of powers. They put Selene in the middle and made a circle round her.

“We're going to make you look the same way the wolves look. You have to keep your remaining powers hidden until you are taking them back from the boy. Do not screw this one up, Selene!” Zeus warned.

“I won't disappoint you, Zeus.” She smiled.

“I hope you won't,” He stepped back and gave the gods a go ahead to work on her. They combined their powers and the energy shot out of their hands. It took the form of an orb of energy and surrounded her body and head. Then slowly faded, leaving her looking like a human.

Her face was still the same, but her hair color was changed to black, her perfect body was made to look like a teen and her golden eyes turned brown.

“It is done,” They all moved back.

Zeus sighed as he looked at her. “We've automatically included your name in the student list at school. You can still go by Selene, but your surname is Moon. His name is Dominic Maximus. Make sure you earn his trust by befriending him. Staying on earth for too long can make you weak, so be fast with whatever you want to do and get back here,” He instructed. She nodded and waved at Marlene.

Marlene smiled back and muttered “good luck” to her.

“Close your eyes.” He whispered.

She sighed and did as instructed. When she opened them, she saw herself in front of a gate. At the top was written Royals Training Academy.

“I can do this,” She exhaled and opened the gate. The school was huge and she could see students walking to and fro. She could smell the royalty off them all. They were going to be great Alphas and Lunas when they graduate.

She looked around. “Where could he be?” She walked into the halls and smiled as she looked around. She knew how schools looked like and the activities that went on, but she hadn't stepped her feet in one before. It felt good somehow.

“Dominic!”

She heard someone scream and turned to the direction the voice came from. Something stirred within her when she saw the reason behind the screams and commotions in the hallways.

As he walked down the school hallway, all eyes turned to the tall, and handsome guy with his jet black hair styled to perfection. His piercing hazel eyes seem to light up the room, and his chiseled jawline and strong cheekbones are perfectly accentuated by his designer stubble.

Dressed in a sharp, black shirt and jeans trousers, he exuded an air of confidence and sophistication that immediately drew the attention of those around him. He's the kind of guy every girl wants to be with, and every guy wants to be like.

“He is the baby. I can feel my powers,” She said.

He ignored the cheers and was about to walk past her, but bumped into her and turned to apologize, but was frozen when they locked gazes. He felt his wolf howl in excitement, threatening to bust out. Her scent like strawberries with fresh roses attacked his nostrils, and it was that moment he knew.

Dominic couldn't stop himself from muttering the one word that annoyed him greatly.

“MATE,” He said and Selene's eyes widened.

“Mate?”
