Chapter 26

From Daunte's POV

I had no idea what she had seen, but I knew she wasn't lying. Her look and how she held onto me tightly told me she was telling the truth. She had a look of fear in her eyes, and I could feel her trembling. I knew that whatever she had seen was frightening, and I knew I had to protect her by any means necessary.

Walking back to my office, I knew I had to finish telling her the truth about her parents. My one fear was that this would push her away even more. I knew that I had to take the risk and tell her in spite of the fact that this might mean losing both her and Romo. As we entered my office, I led her to the chair across from my desk and gestured for her to sit. I took a deep breath and started to explain the situation.
