Chapter 8

Evelyn's POV

I remained still, lingering in my spot on the floor. Not even an ounce of strength was left in me.

The violent pinches from my tummy resumed and I curled up closer, clutching my stomach weakly.

I didn't hear any more sounds from the guards and I started wondering if anyone actually came or talked— maybe it was my imagination.

My hope of leaving this place is not up to the size of a mustard seed, it feels like I've spent my whole life here and the skies are only an illusion or a figment of my over-active imagination.

An unusual brightness came onto my face and the vision within my closed eyes reddened, I tightened my eyelids in discomfort.

‘’Get up!’’ I heard a thick voice bark at me, echoing in the room.

Now I'm sure I wasn't imagining things at the beginning.

With my eyes still closed, I gathered every single strength, left in my nerves and pulled myself up, to my knees.

My bones creaked and waves of pain enveloped me. I remained on my knees helplessly.
