ASHER’S POV

The room bore silent witness to my turmoil. My breaths emerged as ragged gasps, my fists clenched so tightly that my knuckles blanched.

'Then I rather die' The echo of Lisa’s decision still reverberated in my mind, an unyielding storm that refused to subside. Our bond, once strong, was now hanging by a thread. All because of a moment’s weakness—a moment when the desires of my inner wolf overpowered my own restraint.

“Why?” I whispered into the emptiness, my voice barely a breath. “Why did it have to come to this?”

The door creaked open, interrupting the silence. Silas stepped in, his head bowed in deference. “You called for me, Alpha?”

I turned to him, my eyes pleading for the answers I hoped he could provide. “Have you seen Lisa?” I inquired, maintaining a steady voice despite the turmoil within.

Silas nodded with a solemn expression. “I saw her, Alpha. She was… distressed, down the hallway. I attempted to engage her in conversation, but she remained unresponsive.”
