29. Remorse

Rogue's POV

I clenched my jaw harder and sucked deep breaths. A nervous habit in moments of hesitation like this.

With my eyes still glued to the screen, I sat in the chair the ugly beefcake had occupied not five seconds ago and pulled the laptop closer. I opened the mail and looked at the attachment— the video clip. On the thumbnail was a still image of expressionless Kathrine staring at the camera straight at me with eyes that were actually floating with terror.

I counted to ten before clicking the play button. The video began, so did the rise of turmoil in my chest. I bit into the inside of my bottom lip as the video started with the door being violently kicked open. Kathrine jumped at the sound and sat straight on the bed.

She didn't flinch back when Cezar approached her with the camera focusing on her face. This face I was seeing now was on the thumbnail. Still and expressionless. But the thousand questions in her eyes and the muscle at her jaw ticking exhibit
