Let's play a game

I drifted in and out of consciousness, barely knowing what was happening. I knew I wasn't at home because of the smell of disinfectant and the yells coming from my mates. It was both noisy and uncomfortable, but I couldn't yell out for them to quiet down.

Thankfully, they did, without me screaming for them to stop. The yelling stopped, and so did the pain.

The next time I woke up, I was back in my room, with Mitch by my side.

“Darling?” He knelt on the floor and took my hand in his, peering up at me. “How are you feeling?”

“Great.” I smiled at him, thrilled to know I could speak freely. My lips didn't appear as dry as it was this morning.

“Mike is preparing lunch for you. The doctor said you have to eat something nutritious,” he explained, still smiling.

“Oh.” I sat up on the bed and raised my left palm to my forehead.

“The doctor claimed you were stressed. He only injected you and asked for us to take you back," he explained further.
