Regrets

My stepbrothers were silent throughout the drive back to our house. It was close to midnight before I called an end to the party. Humans know how to have fun, and they almost tugged me into their circle.

I got out of the car the minute Mitch killed the engine and walked towards the front step on wobbly legs. I had more than my fair share of alcohol because I had to. Getting to speak with those business executives took a toll on me. I needed to look happy, smiling at them as they discussed an intended partnership with me.

They were all waiting to see if my business would succeed so they would sneak in to get some profits for themselves, not that I would mind if it was a win-win situation.

Luckily, none of them tried to flirt with me as Stanley did. They kept a respectable distance between us and spoke of nothing but a collaboration, which worked so well for me.

I doubt I could keep the smiling facade should any of them try to act like Stanley did.
