Jennifer narrowed her eyes. "You're letting me go?"

Alec responded with a dark grin. "Marrying into my family would be a gift for a woman from a second-rate family like yours! Look after my son during the day and take care of me at night; maybe I'll give you a child! That would be your ticket to the top."

Before Alec could finish, Jennifer seized a glass of water from the table and threw it in his face. "That's my answer! Thank you!"

Soaked, Alec's smile froze on his face. "How dare you!"

The guards’ expressions changed and they surrounded Jennifer swiftly, their presence intimidating.

Donovan was equally taken aback. He tried to calm the situation. "Everyone, this is just a misunderstanding! We came here to talk, not to fight!"

"I will show some respect to Officer Sanders today. Let her go!" Despite the public embarrassment, Alec laughed rather than showing anger.

Having braced herself for a severe fallout, Jennifer was shocked.

She turned around and left the room.
