Zelda's Condition

Drake

I woke up to the shrill ring of my phone cutting through the silence of the room. Once I looked at the caller ID, Immediately recognized the hospital's number on the screen, and dread washed over me. I answered with trembling fingers, my voice barely more than a whisper.

"Hello?" I replied.

"Mr Drake?" The female voice asked

My throat tightened, and I managed a strained, "Yes, this is he."

"I'm calling from the Clinic," the voice continued. "I'm afraid there has been a complication with Zelda's surgery."

The world seemed to stop moving as my brain tried to process what the nurse had just said. Zelda, my beloved mate, who failed to protect me, was lying in a hospital bed because of my incompetence. My heart pounded so loudly that I could barely hear the voice on the other end. "What happened? Is she okay?"

"During the procedure, there was an unexpected complication. Zelda's condition has become critical, and we need you to come to the hospital immediately."
