Lucian's POV.

I stood outside, not knowing what else to do. My heart was drumming, and my face was filled with creased lines, showing worry.

Sweat trailed down my face, and Mary stood beside me in worry. I noticed how she ran her hands through her hair to calm herself down.

“She's going to be fine,” she said to comfort me, and at the same time assured herself.

I nodded, not knowing how I would cope if something happened to her.

My wolf was silent. He was angry about me not being able to protect our mate, even when he begged me to.

“I hope she will be. My wolf would rather not speak to me. He's so silent…” I explained to Mary, who sighed.
