Undeserving

Ember's POV

I jumped when I felt a hand touch me. It was no one but the infamous Trent. My head was resting against the wall and I was sure that my eyes bulged out of my sockets.

"What's the matter? Are you okay?" I inquired, before casting another glance a the kids on the bed

"Oh, it's nothing... I don't know... Why are you so scared?"

"I'm not scared. I'm just a bit wary, that's all." I responded, searching to face for the animosity that laid in them a few days ago.

It was missing and it made me wonder if he was messing with my emotions on purpose. There was absolutely no way that I wouldn't be able to figure out that there was a problem somewhere.

"You do know that there is absolutely no way that we can escape from the stress that comes with taking care of a child, so I brought some tea for you. Would you care for some?"

I was still startled by how forgiving he was? Other men would have probably done something against me but he was only staring at me.
