It was late when he got back, but he didn't think the house would be as quiet as it was. He dropped his bag on the floor of the hall and walked to the kitchen. As he entered, he walked to the fridge in the partial darkness, the only light coming from the ray of moonlight from outside. Everything was in shadows, but he was able to walk around it. Soon, the security light from outside would be turned on, and it would reflect into the kitchen as it moved around from the security tower on the east side of the house. “Geez, Ruby. Why are you trying to kill me?” she heard him ask and she realized who it was, and then she opened her eyes to see him clearly, the light from outside shining in. “Oh, Cameron. The work for today was almost done, and he would be able to meet with the private detective as planned. He needed to find out who Roy was, whatever he was up to, all the dirt that he could dig up on him, something, anything to use to keep him away from Ruby. He was tired and the fatigue was from not taking a break to have anything to eat and working since he got to the office this morning. Cameron squinted his eyes with a frown, and he wondered if this was about his relationship with Ruby, his children’s nanny, and himself, but he hoped that she wasn’t going to say something that would anger him. Detective Gomez loved working for Mr. MacMillan, and he had always been his go to detective, he knew that and that was why he loved being on his retainer. It was one of the reasons he was working for him, his ability to keep work as confidential as possible. This wasn’t the first case he had worked on for him, but this seemed like it was important because of the way he had stressed on making sure he stayed hidden. Cameron would be going out later in the evening to meet Detective Gomez, as scheduled. He could have waited for his appointment to be over and met with him, or even allow him to come home but he didn’t want anyone to know that he was meeting a detective, especially Ruby. Speaking of, he needed to see her. She was the reason he had left work to come home first before going to his appointment with the detective because he was still worried about her. He knew that she had not been eating, neither was she taking her pills, so he had to come home to see her. He was really worried about her, and he hated that the man was getting to her this much. Cameron sat there dumbfounded, not sure if it was possible for him to believe everything Detective Gomez had just told him. Of course, he would be needing proof which he was asking for a few days to find, but he wanted him to know about it, and have an inkling of what he had found. He wouldn't gain anything by lying to him, and if he was already trying to find him proof, then he should know it was the truth.
