Athena’s POV“Are you the warrior sent to kill us?” I heard a voice probe behind me, startling me for some moments. I managed to roll away from Tyler’s already cold body to find the source of the innocent voice.A little boy stood in one of the stacked cages below, holding the cage bars with watery eyes. My heart was filled with compassion for him as I approached him. He backed away, further into the cage as I tried to reach for his hands.“I’m here to save you,” I replied, kneeling on both knees, the cafe separating us, wondering why Tyler chose to be brutal even to innocent kids that knew nothing of their abilities yet.“Can you save my mother too?” he asked, rubbing off the tears in his eyes. “I’m leaving no one behind. Okay? I'll make sure everyone gets out alive,” I tried to assure him, breaking the lock on the cage with my fist. Unlike the rest of the other captives laying helplessly in their captive state, he wasn’t chained down with silver. “How about you find your mother
Athena's POVI felt my heart skip several beats. The crowd I was supposed to save began to back away. I turned around. Like one that had no sense of danger--that was far from the truth.I recognized the voice. On turning around, I recognized the face too."Let them go. And have me instead," I called out to him. He stood ahead. Relaxed. His usual expression that seemed to evoke fear even out of the bravest of warriors. "You only made it easier for me," he replied calmly, smoke puffing out of his mouth as he spoke. I looked back at the crowd and yelled at them,"Shut the hell up." Their fear was justified considering the kind of man before us. But I had to fake some sort of dominance. Fake confidence. Anything to make him realize he wouldn't have his way so easily.I turned around. He wasn't there. He was the same man that threatened me to turn against Dante before I broke free."No one has pulled a successful escape from me. Just look at you. If only you sided with me, you wouldn'
Athena's POV"Say nothing," he whispered, his eyes glinting in the moonlight as he laid me down on the cold, hard slab. I felt weak and vulnerable, my body exposed to the harsh elements, but there was something in his touch that made me feel safe, even as I sensed danger lurking all around us.The wind howled, whipping my hair around my face as he bit into his wrist, drawing forth a few drops of his dark, viscous blood. With a steady hand, he brought the wound to my lips, and I felt a strange, almost primal urge to drink. As the blood trickled down my throat, I felt a sudden surge of strength, my senses sharpening as the world around me came into sharper focus. But even as I felt my powers returning, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something mysterious and dangerous about this man, something that I couldn't quite put my finger on.With each drop of blood, I felt a deeper connection forming between us, a bond that defied explanation and seemed to transcend time and space.
Athena's POVStronger mind. More boldness. I'd never known my wolf, Sue to be as fearless as the night of my induction. The other wolves surrounded the yelling body. I ran into their midst. Immediately, I recognized the scent.Walking around her, I sniffed further. The others growling at her ready to tear her up.I growled at my newest pack members, asking them to back away while I transformed back to my partly human form."You either bow to my rule or dare to be their first prey," I threatened. She kept wailing. The pain of betrayal must have caused her so much but she didn't seem to surrender,"Never! I'd rather die than bow to a female Alpha, let alone the one whom I so much despise. Bitch!"The others threatened to attack but I stopped them."Let by gone be by gone, Scarlett else, you've the chance to run and never look back. it's the only favor I can afford you or I leave you to my hungry pack," I threatened, my voice loud and threatening."Not until I collect all that belonged
Athena's POVEvery time. Every single time. I hit a new phase. When I see hope for better days, life creeps in. Cripples my hope and sends me back to that same pit. The same pit of despair I've fought my whole life to outgrow. My daughter. No not my daughter. It could have been me but not Cosmo. She was right there. on that bed, by my side all through the night. "We'll find her," Kevin whispered in my ears, hugging me. He must have felt like he was being comforting, but, that was not what I needed. Nothing could comfort me better than to find my baby. My Cosmo, back in my arms. My World. She was all that mattered to me. My reason for believing in a future.Hope had always been a bad bitch. It couldn't help me. it never did.The once possible future turned into a dark cloud of misery.I heard Kevin organize a search team outside. I heard their growls. He acted more like the Alpha. Doing what I should be doing. Not just because I was the elected Alpha, but because it was my duty as
Athena's POVInstinctively, I replied, "Mother?" unsure of the appropriate word to address her, after knowing my real mother died years ago.My utmost shock was finding her in Dante's palace, holding Cosmo."It's truly you, Athena," she breathed, her voice breaking from the same feeling I felt. Longing. She was alive all these years. All these years I wished I had someone to share my anguish. My foster mother, or rather my mother was alive. She was the only woman in my life that stood the mother figure for me. I forgot all about everything for the next moment and ran into her weak embrace. My eyes watered as I looked in awe at her. Every strand of her hair was grey. But there was no mistaking her eyes and her voice. I hugged her again. Unable to believe my eyes."Fate has brought us back together. I never thought i'ld find you ever again," she sobbed. I took her hands, as he seemed to be weak. I guided her to one of the seats in the lobby."Athena... I'm sorry for all I've caused
Dante's POVI couldn't tell if it was the recent stress from the kingdom or my emotions toiling with my mind, but I could swear that I felt her presence. I perceived her.I knew it was impossible for her to be around. No one would ever come back after such rejection."Why are you out of your room, mother?" I approached my mum as I arrived at the lobby. The other woman in front of me backed me, but I saw my daughter in her hands. She must be one of the maids.I noticed the tears in my mother's eyes. I was forced to ask,"What happened while I was away? Was there another attack? Can someone answer me? Where are the other maids?" I continued, but I got no reply. I was about yelling at the woman, whom I mistook for a maid when she turned around."Athena..." my words trailed off. My worry-stricken face melt into fear, passion and regret. I lived to regret the very day I rejected her. I wished there was some way I could seek forgive or turn back the hand of the clock. But I knew Athena. T
Athena's POVThey all gathered around me, wanting to here how and where I found Cosmo. I walked into the cabin, along with the same woman who helped breast feed her in my absence. I uttered no words to anyone, including Kevin."Under no circumstance should she ever leave your sight," I ordered and went back outside."Gather around, Every single one," I sent a message to the general mindlink. Waiting at the forest clearing. I marveled at the growing pack as they converged in troops. Drooping heads, agile spirits. That was all they knew best to do. If they were competent, Cosmo would have never left my sight. I would never have set my eyes on Dante. I would have lived with the version of him I chose to believe. Now, it was all ruined. Too late to go back in time. He was the beast. He was everything I never imagined. The worst. And there was no going back this time. My tiny hope of us getting back together had been dashed against a rock. But to make that work, I had to prepare my pack.
